FYI - New update is installed and I can not log in. People already in SL are getting a LL message confirming the problem and are advising not to log out if your in there as you wont be able to get back in "for a while".

Just thought others trying to log in might want to know LL is aware of the issue and are working on it. Hopefully, they will update forum announcement and let us know when we can get in again.

Uhuh!
From: Karen Linden
Login issues following 1.10.5 release

During today's downtime, we changed the software configuration of the servers which control log in to the main grid.

The change caused some unexpected behavior that we are dealing with now. I will post again when I have updated information.

Voila the reason.

Is part of the issue repeated TOS demands?
06-28-2006 12:27
I've agreed to the TOS probably a dozen times now... sometimes SL times out, other times "despite our best interests..." There's 3,000 people in the game now and I'm not one of them!

Ridiculous
06-28-2006 12:32
one thing after another, didnt we just have an update. or was it an update to the updated update. at this point i am so dang confused, i dont even know. i do know i have waited all day to log on. updated the update to the updated update. logged in which by the way took 10 minutes, 5 to get the tos up and agree, then 5 more to log in. unfortunately i didnt know of the "once your on dont get off" policy apparently put into effect after the update. to further peeve me off, one of the reasons it gave me that i couldnt sign in was "my clock on my pc is not set correct"...good friggin lord, what next?
great site when its up and running...gl ll's!!!!

In...
06-28-2006 12:33
Patience, maybe? I closed out of SL, when it got to the TOS, I agreed/disagreed toggling back and forth, made sure to scroll down the bottom.... said yes... and just ignored it. I finally got in.

They just told me "something went wrong" and I should have a look in the forum and on the status page. On Known Issues there is nothing... thats not what I am paying for...

Okay I keep getting the error that I need to update my version of SL, but I've already downloaded and installed it twice! Do I have to uninstall the old version of SL or something?

Thanks for any help. :)

can't login
06-28-2006 15:20
Since version 1.10.5 I cannot login to SL.

All I get is: Verifying Protocol Version...
followed by: unable to connect to Second Life

I'm not angry, just all alone :)

This is becoming quite annoying, after several hours. I install the update, and nice; I can login, but cannot walk anywhere, and rezzing is extremely slow. Within a few minutes, I get the 'red minimap of death', so I log out, after waiting, with hope all would be better.

Second and third tries resulted in the exact same thing, including the red minimap... nice.

Fourth try results in the calling card list not loading (my groups show, though), absolutely blank windows and an empty 'world around you' view (including minimap, inventory, map, and find menu windows), as well as an infinite repetition of "Cannot load gesture; please try again later" messages, in chat history. Is anybody else experiencing this, or have a solution?

(Edit #1): I also see a neverending list of calling cards named ";(hippos)" as well as the inability to move my camera. Over time, I gradually sink below 0 meters in the world.

Statistics bar shows a fixed 10,000 or 100,000 msec rate for Ping Sum/user and 0.00 dilation, every time I retry.

Bandwidth usage is remaining at a fixed rate every time I try to start SL; this time at 82kbps.

Somebody dropped the wrong cookies.

(Edit #2): After about a dozen or so attempts, green blips finally show on the minimap, and move, too... yet nothing is seen in the world; not even land or water; just your everyday sky...

(Edit #3): No more green blips, and trying to login into different sim locations, even some empty, barren ones, does not work. In the event it does work, the red minimap comes up right away. Uninstallation and reinstallation caused no difference in effect. What's going on? I see no Announcements or Known Issues posts, yet.

(Edit #4): Glad to hear something's getting fixed. They need to update the Announcements, or Known Issues threads sometime soon. Some folks still can't login, even after updating the game, trying clearing cache/temp files, among the general suggestions in the Support Wiki.

I'm back to a blank universe, after almost two days. I checked my connection, and I can load any other game or web page without trouble.

I've also noticed that the login progress bar hangs, for about 2 minutes, at "Connecting to Region" and "Precaching".

The precaching portion of the progress bar never loads and, instead, skips to "Downloading Clothing..." I can't believe I'm paying for this, either. :(

*****UPDATE*****
Thanks to a certain group of residents, I was finally able to login. For some reason, McAfee was blocking SecondLife since wednesday afternoon... It's good to check to see what application rules are set for all of your computer protection softwares.

After upgrading to the latest version I could not connect to the SL server without doing an update which I had already done.

I emailed tech support and received a prompt reply ( thank you, thank you ) which I am happy to report worked beautifully. Here are the steps below that you need to follow if you are having this difficulty.

1) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and
delete the contents of your Temp folder.
2) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second
Life and delete the contents of the Cache folder.
3) Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your
Windows Control Panel.
4) Visit http://secondlife.com/download and download and install the
latest release.

NOTE: If you cannot see the files or folders, go to the Tools menu,
choose Options, go to the View tab, and select Show Hidden Files and
Folders. Then click OK.

I seem to be having similar problems as you. Does anybody have a solution, yet? I need to be able to check my group's land, and administer things there. :(
