I recently reformated my computer - Since then i have been crashing instantly in second life anywhere from 2 -20 minutes of play.
My system specs are:

3.2 Ghz intel pentium 4 proccesor
1024 megs of Corsair XMS series low latency RAM
Nvidia Geforce Fx5950 ultra from bfg tech
XP home edition

I have checked for trojans/spyware - viruses - iv cleaned my registry and defragged

I do have zone alarm firewall but in the test setup iv disabled everything, including windows explorer: ( as seen here )
http://images.filecloud.com/150315/my%20task%20list.jpg

I run the game on fairly minimal settings at 800x600 windowed mode in contrast to my native resolution of 1280 x 1024 - i usually acheive a consistant 30 frames per second even in crowded rooms with ridicuously detailed avatars ( furnation prime =P ) and in the test setup i was reaching upwards of 40 frames.

I have disabled quite a few "useless" services under msconfig:
Dns client
error reporting service
fast user switch compatability
netmeeting remote desktop sharing service
QoS RSVP
Task Scheduler
Windows firewall
print spooler
volume shadow copy
security center
wireless zero confirguration service

Nothing i do in the game seems to be specifically triggering the crash - as a matter of fact when i minimize and go afk it still happens - its completely spuratic

i have sent several crash logs since the problem has occured.

I have downloaded the latest Video drivers available on Nvidia's home page and i have the latest versions of direct x, direct x9.0c

the crashing seems inevitable - and i am having " similar " issues in other online games - though not identicle i do frequently experience sudden disconnect issues in one game in perticular - warcraft 3 . It could be my internet connection i soppose - would a sudden connection hiccup cause second life to crash? Or would i just be brought to the login screen if that were the case?
Thank you for your time, this is a very crippling problem .

i have discovered my problem may be directly related to an intergrated router present inside my dsl modem - i have to open port forwarding on the router through telnet - if anyone knows how i can do this please share. this may however not even work nor be the reason i am having these problems

Hi Sporx,
Welcome to the forums. Hope you can get this sorted so that you can be back to fun soon...

It´s a bit difficult to say what it exactly is, but for sure not sl alone if something like that has happend before. SL simply draws your box to the max and every timing weakness/bug by a driver in your box can blow it up.

I recently resolved random crashes accompanied by stuttering and varying but rather high packet loss and sl locked up my machine with only the reset button as solution.
The fault was a wlan problem, the atheros 5211/2 had a real bad driver with already mini freezes during web browsing. SL simply magnified this bug.
Checking the drivers at the manufacturer wasn´t enough because this error ocurred only in certain machine configurations. It´s better to analyze with Control-Shift-1 what actually happens on your machine. Important here is a more or less constant framerate and no packet loss.

I can´t tell you anything about your DSL hardware. DSL Modems mostly come with their own software and if you have a DSL router it has a web interface. Better have a look in your documentation.

Well, i am not sure, if this is the same as for you. I experienced freezes during surfing and stuttering and machine freezes and lockups with sl, only a reset could help then. I found out, that it was the atheros wlan driver that lead me into troubles. Unfortunately my card manufacturer hadn't had any newer drivers, so I tried a current driver for this chipset by another manufacturer, and, bingo, everything works fine now with no packet loss and no freezes anymore.
Probably you might check all your hardware/drivers for instability issues by digging on the web...

Regards,
Leff.
