I'm using a R9700 pro for my GFX card. my question is why is the "use AGP graphics" button in options grayed out to me. it always has been ever since i started playing SL over half a year ago.

Same card here, same greyed-out check box. I haven't a clue why it looks like that, but it's always been there for me in the six months I've been in SL.

On a positive note, it doesn't seem to affect anything for me. I used to have crashing problems when the camera was rotated quickly (such as what occurs when you enter or leave the Appearance window), but since installing the Omega drivers, I haven't had a lick of trouble. The AGP check box is still grey, but I've been happily ignoring that for six months now. :)

It seems like a mis-reporting issue with certain ATI cards and most PCI-xpress cards. You can generally ignore it; it shouldn't dramatically affect your performance.

Ummm, the R9700 ATI isn't a PCIe card, it's an AGP right? I have been told that the reason it is greyed out is because ATI's Open GL support is buggy and the AGP support is turned off for compatibility. The impact is not that great overall though and it isn't a fault condition. That is what I was told when I was running my 9800 pro.

Exactly, Kathmandu. Like Lee said above, it doesn't seem to have any significant performance impact. Allowing for differences in processor speed, my 9700 at home runs about as well as my X800 at work, both of which are AGP cards by ATI.
