Omg, sl completely screwed now?!

I have never seen it THIS bad. Amazingly slow rezzing and texture loads. Sounds not even loading at all. Tp's mostly failing. Huge package loss. And the blog keeps silent. This is the worst performance ever in my year of sl.

9 out of 10 times when people complain about SL as whole the actual problem will be the sim they're on, their ISP or their computer that's having problems.

Learn how to differentiate grid problem from sim problems from network problems from local computer issues and you'll have a far more pleasant experience.

For the problems you're describing: View / Statistics Bar... if pending downloads or uploads isn't regularly dropping to 0 you found the cause of the rezzing problem, tp to another sim and you'll be fine.

If it's not that and with packet loss, try tp'ing to a SF sim if you're in a Texas sim (or the other way around - very old vs very new mainland continent is a good bet if you're unsure) and see if you still suffer from the same problems. If you don't, your ISP (or anything in between) is having troubles routing to that part of the grid.

If you do, it might be connection problems in general, but that still doesn't mean it's SL coming apart at the seams.

I don't experience all this...SL has been like always the last few days for me....weird. Not lightning fast, but also not slower than on other days. TPs are okay too.

It's very strange. No sounds are loading at all. Not even the typing sounds. I have checked preferences but everything's fine. In other sims I experience the same problems. When I walk or see others walking they move but don't move their legs. Don't actually walk. I have checked pending downloads and uploads and they are at zero.

My internet connection seems to be fine. Yesterday I experienced tp-problems: the tp status bar only moved slowly and made me finally quit sl. After the second login I couldnt move. Only a third login solved the problem. Thats why I unistalled and reinstalled sl today. But now problems are even worse.

Oh yes, of course I emptied cache etcetera.

The most strange thing is that not even the typing sound can be heard or any other in-world sound. I hear the wind though and streaming audio. Hmmm, I really need some help here. How can I check if the problem isnt my ISP?

Try starting the viewer "fresh" (with all the default settings).

For a PC:
%APPDATA% (just type it into regular Explorer like that) and open the "Second Life"
For a Mac:
Library/Application Support/Second Life/

You can either move all the folders (or the actual *.xml files) there to somewhere else temporarily, or you can just delete all of it (you would have to reset all of your preferences then). Also remember that your logs are saved to your avie name's folder there by default if you have conversation logging enabled.

When you start SL now it'll start with all the default settings, giving you a chance to figure out if the problem is due to a setting gone wrong, or because of something else.

If you don't hear sounds still you can close SL and restore your previous settings (simply move the folders/files you moved earlier back in). At least you know it's not due to any setting.

If you do hear sounds then you can either go back to your previous settings and try to figure out which one you set wrong, or start from the defaults and change everything back to the way you're used to, whichever is easiest for you.

try again maybe you get right. if this not the most mistaken mistake people are saying i dont know what is. But frankly speaking its due to issues between the routing pips between dallas and Sf anda few other locations.

I guess you have been right, thanks for your replies. Things have been better the last two hours. It wasn't sl or my pc or settings. Only thing left was my ISP. I still don't know how to check that, but it's about the only option left. Is there any way to check ISP performance? I usually try a speedtest site.

No when it's completely screwed it will at least have offline in red on the login screen and there certainly won't be 30,000 people online.
