I am looking into developing multiple video kiosks inside of the same small space within a single parcel. What is best practice for multiple video presentation, splitting into multiple parcels or other? Sun Pavilion has a wonderful kiosk system that appears is scripted to kick videos on and off when crossing from one kiosk to another. If a framework like this was for SaleL$ somewhere I would buy it. Any ideas? thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I think you need to have a separate parcel for each video stream. Have a look again at Sun Pavilion - I bet there are multiple parcels!

I've taken another look at the Sun Pavilion kiosks. As far as I can tell all the kiosks are on the same parcel. There is a phantom transparent prim that spans the borders of the kiosk. That prim's contents include a script they have titled "media station" which I would assume controls the on/off toggling of each video as an avatar steps through the phantom transparent prim. There are also 5 different textures in the contents, each a transparent file and probably for the 4 sides and the top of the transparent prim. If I could only see what that script was all about, it would answer my questions.

The Sun Pavillion uses multiple parcels as Nicola mentioned. Specifically, each kiosk is on a separate 64 m^2 parcel.

I've not been able to find Sun Pavilion - but that's what I would have thought (separate parcels).
I know there are scripting options to determine HOW a video plays (for example, if clicked does it stop for just the clicker or for everyone on the parcel). And of course there are plenty of scripts around to "change channels" so ppl can switch media streams on a parcel.

Even if the Sun Pavilion did use a script for each parcel, it seems a lot of unecessary work to create scripts for something that is already built in to SL, and which can be achieved by simply splitting parcels.

Tanbou, if I were you I'd split the parcel!

The pavilion is located at Sun Pavilion (182, 144, 55).

Thanks.
Yes, I see - each video stream on a 64 parcel.
Looks like the script is triggering the playback - Detecting when an av moves into the parcel and starting playback automatically maybe.
Green Fate is down as creator - nothing to lose by asking him why and how the scripts are used, but in essence the different streams are possible because of the separate parcels.
As I mentioned before, there are LSL commands specifically for video which you may well like to explore!

Have fun!

You should checkout the Silver Stream Network system, it can truly play multiple media streams in a single parcel. Each screen/player comes with its own playlist and media controls.
Its so powerful, it will work even on land you dont own, or have media rights to. Each screen has a built in, fully adjustable sensor (no prim walls with scripts in).

A single server set anywhere on the sim, will serve 30+ screen/media players, even if there are no parcels, it doesn't care. Whats more, it coexists with the land based media!

Version one (Proximity Server System) won an award at the International Technology Expo 2007, not there is version two (Silver Stream Network).

As more servers are deployed per sim, this will create a SL Intranet, wearing one of the linked HUD screens, will enable the wearer to watch media almost anywhere in SL. Dial into your favourite media station on the internet, listen to your favourite radio stations, take a look at the latest 3D movie fashion displays of your favourite designer whilst you are dancing in a club, lazing by the pool, strolling through the various SIMs in SL.
