I have an ATI Radeon 9600 card and Im using the unofficial Omega drivers since Ive found it to be alot better than the official ones. When I started up SL for the first time I was shown a window telling me to update my drivers. Ive long since ignored it and have been running the game fine. Ive also got into the INI file and enabled shiny objects that way, but Im not sure if I would be able to enable it and other graphic options normally or not. Plus every once and awhile I get a nasty crash and all directX function (other games stuff ETC) will stop working along with some video card vfunctions (sometimes the screen never returns). Oh and ofcourse the SL view becomes all messed up and Im forced to close it. So I usually just reset my computer and run SL again. I think its most likely from running the game with 256Megs of ram, but it seems like its a video card issue.
Anyone else have any troubles with running the game with Omega drivers?
Also is there a way to get SL to use my card normaly as if I was using the normal drivers? Since the omega drivers run on everything else supurbly it seems that SL is refusing to work with my card and these unofficial drivers. Though they really are just modified Catalyst drivers.

You are likely running into the flaky ATI card itself. I have a 9800pro collecting dust because it would crash and freeze up often.. the older ATI's have a definite problem with SL, due to several factors but the ATI implimentation of OpenGL being the bigest.
Omega drivers are essentually tweaked standard drivers and should not be causing any problems themselves. I would recommend turning off AA and AF filtering as it would constantly crash my 9800pro.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to crack down and get a new card anyway. Im using my friend's old card since I was using an ATI Radeon VIVO (before they added numbers to the cards). I still love that card and the video in and out, but ya, gotta catch up with the newer stuff already :/ I wonder if AA and AF may have been crashing my card, though Im pretty sure I had those off. I guess I'll do some checks and things. Though em, have you tried tweaking the card settings at all for SL use? Though I guess theres not much that can be done. Oh well, aslong is it runs though xD

Im running a 9800 pro on the DHZeroPoint custom drivers from www.guru3d.com , and im running sl at 2xTAA and 16XHQAF. The only thing thats ever caused me problems in sl is when im around scripted shiny objects but disbling shiny resolved that crash. This crash however was not a regular every few minutes thing. Running AA and AF should not be crashing you out. The screen going off sounds like your ATI card is attempting a VPU recover, a feauture of ATI cards and drivers. You can disbale this in the driver options through right click desktop > properties > settings > advanced, but its exact location is different with every driver tbh so you will have to have a hunt

well, I got my drivers from Guru3D aswell :3 But I guess it must be the shiny objects option thats crashing it :/ I had to force that in the INI file to get it to turn on. Kinda sucks to not have that feature when building things, but I guess now that I atleast know what it looks like I wont need to worry about how my object will look with it too much. Found the VPU thing, it was in the VPU recovery tab But you sure its a wise thing to turn it off? Though I do have to reset my computer anyway, its really just DirectX and OpenGL stuff that quits working. Isnt there a way to get those running again without reseting? The DirectX and OpenGL drivers that is.
