I have a frequent problem with the SL client memory usage.. ATM it's eating 1.956.372kB of my memory...

Is there a way to put a cap on how much it may use?

heh where do people go to get this much O_o i can be in SL for 10~ hours (and dont crash once -.- sim does usually) and rarly ever go over 800 mb unless i up view distance to 512 then we're at easy 1000mb+ , mines usually 128-198 ish.

Only way i know you can make it less ram use is to set view distance lower, then you have less to load into ram (textures on prims/avatars), and always disable clouds pretty much instant i log in SL, they are ugly (old client) and tend to do nothing for me anyway -.-

There is a memory leak they fixed in next update (wonder how long that work : p ) , in Jiira somewhere.

Known Issue

Yes, The memory leak is a well known priority issue.

It seems to be worse on newer PCs using graphic cards with 256mb+ memory.

It is a pain. The only very short term remedy is to minimise the SL client. That will release the memory used but as soon as you maximize again, the memory usage will build up quickly.

Thili, you are lucky. What sort of graphic card are you using and how much memory has it got?

(bottom line there is to reduce adv.graphics, video memory to make more room for the rest of the operating system or for the leak :-))

Yes, your lack of TPing is most likely your saviour.
try to TP to a few busy sims in a short time and you will see how we suffer ;)
