I'm one of those people who doesn't use mouselook because it is crappy and you can't see well, and I don't pull down "camera controls" and work them, either, because they don't stay and require too much trouble.
What I do is press "alt" and hold it down, and then click my mouse repeatedly.
That used to work great before 1.6 to zoom in, especially in build mode, because 9/10 times, in build-mode, you get rocked up way out of the building you are trying to edit, and can't see what the hell you are editing. It's one of the single greatest annoyances in this game, that rocking of the camera angles and rocking of your av, preventing you from working. And the workaround to that *used to be* pressing alt and mouseclick simultaneously.
No more.
Now, for some odd reason, pressing on alt and mouse clicking somehow activates strange characters on the keyboard and random letters.
The first thing that happens is your av looks like it is typing even when it is not trying to type, and people get annoyed thinking you're endlessly typing and talking to them when you're not.
Secondly, you fill up the world with random characters and crap.
This is so incredibly annoying, I'm bothering to post about it.

This is so incredibly annoying, I'm bothering to post about it. Prok - I do the same thing. Especially when sitting, its really convienient to use ALT+mouseclick to zoom to lock my camera in on something. It's working fine for me - although our setups might be different. I just used ALT+click a few moments ago with no problems. Couple ideas: (I'm assuming you are using Windows. If not - my ideas here are probably useless). 1. Close Second Life, and open up Notepad. Hold down the alt key, and click inside notepad with your mouse. You shouldn't see any characters. If you do - there's something going on with your PC - either a bad mouse - mouse driver, bad keyboard, etc.. 2. Try Uninstalling & Reinstalling SL. (Only reason - if this is some sort of font-install issue) 3. If you have any, try removing any additional languages installed on your computer as a temporary measure. (See if it makes any difference) Hope this helps!

Close any other programs that may be running, as well. TSO and There.com addons like "giggles" have caused similar problems in the past.

I don't have There and I don't know what the TSO add-ons could be. From: someone 3. If you have any, try removing any additional languages installed on your computer as a temporary measure. (See if it makes any difference) I'm afraid I need the Cyrrilic on there so I guess I'll have to live with this. As I do alt-mouse, I see the Cyrrilic or I see the notes of the music scale or ace of clubs. Oh well, will have to suck it up I guess.
