ok for starters my pc has a 6600gt with a semperon 2600 and 512megs of ram. When I login on my account on my pc my avatar is messed up. The clothing and the skins are repeated all over me like you would repeat a texture on a object. The funny thing is when I log on using the wifes account her avatar is perfectly fine. So, I decided to log onto her her computer (which has a amd xp 3200 and a g-force2 card in it) using my account and still get the same results, when i log on with her account everything is fine. I spoke with one of the lindens and she told me that i was having hardware issues. Then why is it my avatar is screwed up no matter which computer i use but my wife's avatar is fine on both computers. I have uninstalled and installed the latest version of SL 3 times, also I have installed and uninstalled my drivers 5 times. Both SL and graphics drivers are up to date. Does anyone have a solution to this problem besides telling me that i have hardware issues cause i cannot see how one avatar is fine on two computers and another is messed up on the same two computers. As for temperature of the graphics both pc's stay on all the time.

This is typically a bad bake for your skin. SL takes all the layers of clothing, skin tattoos etc and makes it a single layer or bake. Typically all you have to do is go into your appearance and change a slider a bit on something and the avatar is rebaked and will usually clear this problem up once it has been saved.

You must have gotten ahold of a nontechnical Linden as this is a fairly well know occurance.

i have tried that and i also tried using different skin. But as soon as i get out of appearance mode it take about 3 to 5 mins to get jacked up again.

I saw David's problem in-game, in appearance mode everything was fine but he got e.g. multiple mouths across his face after baking, I hope Harry Linden got him straigtened out, but if not I suspect corrupted skin textures and I'd rip down your AV to default skin and see if that fixes it.

Otherwise, Kathmandu, have you other pointers? Thanks.

Same Problem

I'm having the exact same problem. When I go into appearance everything toggles out of control and goes into textures.

I'm not too familier with this sort of thing. Only other thing I can think of it try baking with any anti-virus or anything Norton's turned off.

I still think that your skin textures are corrupted on the asset server and you need to ditch them. Here's why:
  1. I saw them too so it is not local to your machine
  2. Your wife's login works fine so it isn't your SL or your OS
  3. You haven't said whether you ditched the skins
If you haven't done so, please do. Sorry you had to reload your machine. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

I agree with Malachi Petunia. It's clearly not a problem on the client side, since he has the same problem on his wife's computer using his account, but her account works fine. So, it has to be a server side problem, related to his account.

Ditching the skins and going back to the default AV skin makes the most sense at this point. One other thing you might try if that doesn't work is taking all the clothes and attachments off your AV (preferably in a mature sim *winks*) and use the default skin. Perhaps one of those items is creating the problem.

ok I think I'm actually fixed now. In case anyone has this problem this is what i did. I deleted all my skins and textures and alos half of my objects. Logged off, loaded the most up to date drivers, delete cache, and the david toonie folder, uninstalled SL, and finally reinstalled SL. Right now my avatar has been stable going on 30 minutes. It might seem like alot of work but its working so far. Thank you to everyone who has given some insight on what to look for and pointers on fixing it. It seems like I had to combine everything everyone has told me and then some, but i really do appreciate it and thank you again. You alll have been extremely helpful.
