OpenGL a priority for Apple: as part of late-stage Tiger development and ongoing efforts to achieve better 3D/gaming performance on the Mac, Apple is not only hiring developers specifically for OpenGL optimization -- it is in talks with some of the industry's biggest 3D players (both hardware and software) to put Cupertino at the head of OpenGL technology.

The next several revisions of OpenGL 2.x, as result, can be expected to include tweaks that will specifically aid the Mac platform in both performance and ease of development. Cross-platform game development, in particular, is something that Apple intends to make *considerably* easier -- even for those developers who rely primarily on Microsoft's DirectX. Apparently, Apple has an "ace in the hole" that should make porting DirectX 8/9 games to OS X considerably easier....more on that in our weekend updates.
