So, i've played SL for a while on a system that barely met the requirements until recently when the motherboard went out.... dunno why, just know that it was gonna cost quite a bit to fix it (It did damage to the harddrive and such as well). So I decide to go out and drop just a few hundred more on a system that's faster and easily meets requirements. 2.0GHz... gig of ram... 128mb video card (it's integrated for now, maybe that's the problem?) so it should easily run SL. The problem I've been having is it runs really choppy. I'm on DSL, same connection I was running sl on before, and show no signs of it being a connection problem, but it seems that it's completley slowing my CPU down. I push CTRL, ALT, DEL... and it shows that my CPU Usage is 100%... what's going on? I've never had this problem before with any program on any system... I've emailed Tech Support with no response in about a week... I just wanna play SL! :P Hope some of you have an idea or two... cause I'm fresh out.

Near-total CPU usage is actually pretty typical of SL. Do you know what motherboard you have? What CPU or video card?

What kind of motherboard and CPU did you have before? What video card? How much RAM do you have?

Just a guess since nothing is known about the PC (2.0 Duron is totally different than a 2.0 Sempron) other than you said it had integrated graphics which is, unfortunatly, likely going to be the problem. You can try going into preferences and turning everything off/ to minimum especially draw distnce.

More info please.

I always turn draw distance waaaay down, and don't have anything on (my comp won't let me even try shiny)... But at the same time, i'm ususallly at 20-30 FPS

ok, here are the stats of my computer

AMD Athlon 3200 - I was told this runs about the same as a 2.0GHz Pentium...
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Integrated Videocard - runs at 128mb
1025mb RAM - 897mb after sharing the videocard
Unsure what motherboard is in this... rifling through the paperwork :P

My OLD system
AMD Athlon 1800
GeForce something-or-other... 64mb
256mb RAM
Gigabyte Motherboard (dunno any of the specs on it, just the brand name)

Let me know if any other information would be good.

Also, the Videocard is fine in the old computer, would it be better if I took the card out of there and put it into this computer?

Yes, I'd try that, assuming the new motherboard has an AGP slot, at least. Unfortunately, I'm almost certain it won't. I don't know of any Radeon Xpress 200 motherboards that do -- it's a PCI express chip. I don't suppose your old video card is the original PCI, is it?

The graphics component of the Radeon Xpress 200 is pretty underpowered, while shared memory can result in poorer system performance. Your best option might be to buy a low-end PCIe card and use that.

Hmm... ok. I actually am almost positive that my computer has both of those slots in it... but we'll have to see... thanks, and if there's any more advice I'd love to hear it. Unfortunatley I don't know as much about computers as I'd like. :P

It's possible, there are a few rare boards that have both. If you can find out what motherboard you have, that would let you know.

The Athlon 3200+ is a good CPU that is roughly equivilant to the Pentium 3.0 (bechmarks put it in the 2800 range but plenty fast for SL)

The integraded video is, well, a dog... If your motherboard is PCI-e you would do lightyears better getting a Nvidia 6200 and I have seen them in the $60 - $70 range. A 6600 gt would make your's a pretty sweet machine.
