Would someone exlpain to me why SL performance has declined so drastically lately. I understand many things can create performance issues but in general lately my SL performance is so undesirable to do much of anything and it is really hit and miss. This morning it has been a constant miss. I can't build efficiently, I can't shop efficiently, I go to an event and people are all grey. It doesn't seem to make a difference sim to sim, it'll be ok for a minute then bad.

Other people are complaining of similar issues.

1.) Building - Yesterday I was able to pretty effectively build, and now same location and not noticing any changes to the neighbors property with only myself in the sim, it is just so terribly slow.

2.) Wandering and shopping - If I am able to teleport and not have to relog I stroll through a shop and either the pictures aren't rez'ing or the vendor can't rez the next picture in progression. I went from Le' Cadre to Vampire Empire to Eros , and random stops, and none of these places while at times can be heavily populated were not. There was one other person at Le Cadre and Eros and Vampire Empire had about five people.

3.) Event - I went to an event, it took over an hour for six people to fully rez. The game functioned alright. I went to another event, I had never tried this new popular tringo thing, and there were a number of people there I would guess about 15, some of their cards worked and some didn't, mine didn't and I left to wander only to have to relog when TP was blocked.

I think I have had to relog today about a half dozen times.

I understand stuff like this can and does happen "sometimes" but as of late it is so rampant I search the board looking for some kind of explaination that I can understand and some explaination of understanding from the Lindens and this and that is being done about it.

Perhaps I am missing a thread or looking in the wrong locations.

Would someone help me to better understand what is going on with the terrible performance in SL as of late?

Thanks

I, too, have been wondering the same thing. Performance seems to have slowly deterioated over the last four weeks. It's so frustrating that I'm going to have to leave sl if it doesn't improve. It's sad because I've been having great fun building stuff. Now I can't build or even get aorund my own property. Frame rates averaging 2.5!

might be that your sim got restarted and randomly assigned a slower server. not all the servers are the same. they're working on making that a lil bit more predictable in the new update.

hmmm.... actually, i have seen an improvement in performance and quality of experience. i even bumped up the Options settings recently.

Regardless of what LL publishes as the "minimum and recommended" computer confirgurations, SL is a resource hog and must be feed a whole lot more resources than LL recommends.

i run a Mac G5 with dual 2.0ghz processors with 2GB RAM and the ATI 9800 Special Edition with 256 VRAM, and the high option bandwidth from my ISP.

Bottom line, SL runs great with my configuration and bandwidth - notwithstanding the ever present LL servers and DB problems, which no amout of client resoureces will overcome.

For those with less computing resources, your experience may well suffer.

Just guessing, I would say about 98% of SL users have "less computing resources" than you just rattled off. At least half probably have more RAM and/or better video cards than mine, but I'm probably near the middle of the curve, and my experience has been a lurching horror these last couple weeks. I haven't been checking my FPS, but dead standstills of 30 seconds or so are common, and any kind of smooth movement is pretty much unheard of.

I have more bandwidth than I did at the start of this month, but SL continues to S L O W D O W N .
