Can we pleeze stop switching sims over to these ancient servers when the sim reboots? Suisun went from 15 fps to 2 fps. :( Frustration.

I think you're confusing Client FPS and Sim FPS.

It your sim fps was 15 on the GOOD NEW servers, then your sim is in deep trouble to begin with!

Suisun is reportedly running at 1400 sim FPS. I don't think the dynamic sim hardware pool is your problem, here. I'd ask you to describe your hardware confuration and client settings, but this discussion would probably be more appropriate in the Technical Issues forum.

That said, do check out the SL support wiki page on possible solutions to poor framerates. Also, I've heard a few accounts of "network induced" lag when entering areas for the first time after upgrading to SL v1.5.8/9. I haven't had any problems, personally, but it's another possibility to consider.

client fps was around 15 before sim reset. after sim reset, client fps is around 2. in the debug (alt-1) menu, server cpu usage was 0.5 before reset. after reset, server cpu usage is 1.0. this indicates (i believe) that the sim has been switched over to an older, non-hyperthreaded cpu. can we stop doing that?

Client FPS is independent of sim FPS.

When you are upset that client FPS has dropped, you are not upset about the sim FPS, or whether or not it is running on a HyperThreaded CPU. You are upset by how client hardware and software (newview) are performing. That client FPS has dropped is an interesting problem, but one that has nothing to do with the sim's hardware.

I'm not sure what is causing the drop in client FPS, but I think it more probably has something to do with a change on the client end (e.g.: client software update or other hardware/software environment change on your computer) or possibly in the actual content of the sim.

As and aside, not all SL sim hosts are HyperThreaded. HyperThreading is an Intel-only architecture feature. For example, some of the fastest new sims are running on AMD dual Opteron systems, which offer no HyperThreading. Also, HyperThreading is frequently overrated and has less of an actual impact on performance than improvements to L1/L2 cache, frontside bus, memory controller, and/or RAM bandwidth.

just as an aside many of us have had some really strange client performance problems with SL 1.5.8 and 1.5.9... chances are this is what yer seeing. and believe me its irrespective of the sim yer on... it happens when ya move somewhere with lots of things to download, the client crawls down to 1-2 fps for me.. then over a few minutes it slowly rises back up to 15-20 or more... but if i go somewhere else it happens over again, back down to terrible rate then back up over time as things load in...

this has happened to me on pretty much every sim, from the fastest to the slowest, so im fairly convinced its a client issue

Having a constant 0.5 sim use indicates you are on one of the newer opteron boxes. (the fastest availible in the sim roullete)

Your client FPS is based on your settings in your preferences and your hardware. Not LL's machines.

Actually, IIRC, a 0.5 sim CPU usage means either a hyperthreaded P4 or a dual Opteron.
