So, I'm trying to access SL for the first time. The main screen is just black with the gray boxes (I'm assuming these are login boxes). A friend of mine is logged in, so we tried entering info normally. I entered Name and Password, then hit enter. Another gray box popped up. We're assuming this is an update message, so we pressed enter. Another box popped up for a while. Overall this has done nothing.

My graphics card is compatable. I have no idea how to clear a cache. My internet connection is good. I've uninstalled and reloaded twice.

Help, Please?

Sorry to hear that your first experience with SL is a bad one. There seem to be problems getting connected, you are not the only one, and there is nothing wrong with your pc.
Welcome to SL :)

How long is it supposed to take until this is resolved?

Forget the cache. If you've never logged in yet, it's probably irrelevant (nothing will be cached because you've not even entered the grid). Can you be more specific about your specs. What is the make and model of graphics card and how much memory does it have onboard? Also, how fast exactly is your broadband connection?

If you just see grey boxes with no labels, and no information screen clearly indicating this is the SL client, it sounds like your graphics card might have opengl issues and/or your broadband connection is just unable to connect in order to download the data that is displayed on the login screen - hence the questions above.

Edit: oh, and XP, Vista or something else?
