What's changed since yesterday?

Just popped in for a bit to check out some of the overpriced land in the auctions. I noticed most of it was painfully slow at texture rezing, some so much so that after 10 mins or so, when I gave up, the ground texture hadn't loaded, never mind surrounding builds...

So - home - and... WTF?

Last night it was fine, I was doing stuff, putting info boards and vendors together. Now, about 18 hours later (and trust, me NOTHING in my setup has changed) it's back to 'GreyLifeâ„¢'!

Not only did my home sim textures take forever to load, the ground textures were playing silly buggers, which never happened even at the worst of 1.7.
Three, count them, THREE different incorrect ground textures loaded (S L O W L Y) before the correct one loaded!

So... anyone else getting this wonderful performance?

Anyone got any idea what's going on now?

Yep, things have gotten noticeably worse rather recently.

Here's something I tried that doesn't work: assuming the cache was totally borked, I set the cache size as small as possible in the hopes that it would fast-fail and request the textures - as it seemed to be doing anyway - sooner than it would have. Texture loading got even worser, ergo, the local cache seems to be serving something.

Hmmm, but why ok one day and completely cream-crackered the next?

I mean, consistent issues are one thing, intermittent ones are very bad news - can't report because they aren't consistent... :(
