Hi,

I bought a new PC one week ago:

- Intel® Core2® Duo Prozessor E6750 2x(2.66 Ghz)
- 4000MB DDR2 Speicher 800Mhz (CL5)
- 500GB Festplatte Samsung
- 20x/48x DVD-Brenner Samsung
- 512MB GeForce 8800GT (overclocked)
- ASUS P5N-E SLI Mainboard

So my problem now is:

I can start SL without any problems...
after a while SL gets freezed for few seconds... cant moving mouse, sounds played like a "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".
Than it getting to work normaly.... after a minute the same problem... and than after 30 seconds... than after 20seconds.... and after some time SL only works for 2 seconds ok and the other time its froozen. Only thing that helps than is "reset button".

Some textures are displayed wrong than too... looking green or default textures.. mixed textures or only like testscreen snow.

I hope that anybody understand me and can help me :(

One possibility is that your computer is overheating. A powerful setup like you have will produce a lot of heat. Do you have good fans blowing on your CPU, and drawing the hot air out of your case?

Also - does this problem happen only in Second Life, or does the same thing happen when you run other programs?

the PC system is a system i bought completely in a store. I think they know how to set it up :)

I have a fan on the CPU (intel boxed fan). A fan on the graphic card (original). A fan on the rear and a fan on the front.

I can play for example Need for speed pro street for 6 hours without a problem.

Try changing the graphics setting, set it to use less ram etc. Sometimes less is more :)

I have set the disk cache to 70 now.

Set graphic card RAM to 128 and not 512.

And i still have problems.

A week old computer implies you are running Vista (proabably Vista Home Premium). The manufacturer probably turned on all the glitchy stuff Vista has to offer (like drop shadows and 3d for buttons, etc). That stuff is pretty but it's also resource hogs........makes Vista even more memory hungry that is at the basic set up. We all know SL is a huge resource hog too. The total of the two programs running at the same time could overwhelm even your system. I would try turning off some of Vista's glitchy stuff and see if it improves. Also, the manufacturer probably presintalled a trial version of some security software (often that is Norton or McAfee.............both rather intrusive for SL). Maybe try to get one of the free Antivirus/Spyware programs (AVG by Grissoft is good and I will recommend it to anyone). For the time being Windows firewall for Vista is pretty good (I've tested mine at GRC.com........100% stealth and passed the "Leak Test" with flying colors) so getting a third party firewall is something you might want to consider at a later time.

One more thing to try. In your nVidia control panel try settng your card "performance" and see if you get an improvement. Although I can run my 8600GT at the highest quality that does not mean all systems can do that......besides your card is an 8800 which may be different.

Just some things to try. It will at least get you going in some direction to solve your problem. Of course, I'm guessing at most of the stuff you you have on your computer so if my suggestions are not relevant let us know so we can refine any suggestions.

They may know how to how to "set it up", but a retail outlet shouldn't have to overclock a video chip to get performance. Someone pointed out that your video chip may be over heatings. This may happen regardless of how many fans you have if the thermal conductivity between the video chip substrate and the cooling fins attached to the video chip is not adequate. They may have forgotten to put the appropriate amount of silicon grease between the chip and the base of the cooling fins. Take you box back to them and ask them to check that, and to go into the BIOS and remove the video over clocking. If the video chip is greased correctly and removing over clocking doesn't fix your problem your video chip parameters in the BIOS may not set properly. The retail store should have a pamplet detailing the BIOS settings for the chip. If they don't then they are selling a box with "seconds" parts in it and you may have more problems than you realize.

Stores will always

- put the lowest watt psu they can manage to make it run, make sure its least 500watt
- never test ram properly (memtest86)
- rarly flash bios to correct ram errors with 4gig+ usually on asus mb wich i have several off are plagued with nuisance with 4 gig and over.

It does sound like you have either ram fault, overheating or power issue for me.

SL is known to stress the hell out of your pc to, i had green wierd stripes once, turned out to be vid card ram that was dying.

Agreed.

Although I think that a store "should" know how to put a machine together they could easily have got something wrong.

I would not be surprised with an overheating issue. Download "coretemp" and run it in the background... if you CPU cores are running over 60+ celsius you could have an issue (especially if your CPU is overclocked too). Otherwise try underclocking your video card using the nTune utility. Bring the core down to 600mhz and the memory to 900 (1800mhz effective).

I hope you get your issues cleared up.

Have you tried updating your Video Card Drivers? Even on a brand new system the drivers can be out of date. Just a thought...

My guess..... Video Card.

Reason: check these forums. You'll see folks are having issues with the 8800GT and some Nvidia drivers with SL.

I'll also side with Thili on this one as well.

Mh ok, so i have a 550 W psu in the PC.

And my PC software is Windows XP Pro.

I have the latest video drivers of nvidea.

Is it possible to check the graphic card temperature with a tool in windows ?

Some other facts:
I'm wondering about some things:
- After restarting the PC, SL works longer well.
- After reinstalling the SL viewer it works even longer well.
- Sometimes I am in SL for one hour without any problems in regions with much prims and texture's. for example a very great flowerstore.

I think, that normaly the problem must be there everytime, and special if im in such big regions.

I#M thinking about using the windlight viewer.
Maybe this can fix the problem ?

My PC is good enough for every game which i can buy on the world... so normaly my PC must run with the windlight viewer...
I heard some things about password hacks in windlight viewer... is that right ?

Just a short one about the WL viewer-the current version had the problem with the theoretically possible security leak fixed-you can use that without worrying about that.
