Such a pain in the rump.

I'm writing this message here in hopes that someone here can actually help me, since the reporting problem thing that pops up never does any good.. lazy techie people.. anyway, my problem is as follows. ..And if it's been covered, please link me directly to the thread so I don't have to guess and click every last one looking for an answer that's probably one line long.

It's always been a problem with the game, really. when I first started out on the start island, I crashed shortly after becuase the game put me in a weird.. not-quite mouselook mode. That was solved, but the pasic portion of the error remained. I thought running in a window would eliminate the error, but it only softened it's effects.

All the time, even for no good reason except for maybe the game feels like being a lazy phuck; the torso and in fact entire body of the av, and everyone elses turns into either a floating set of eyeballs, or a furry head and tail floating in the proper possition.. minus the whole durn body to frame it. Some signs of it's approach are an extreme lag of the game, then jumping back to life.. without the body. resizing the window helps restore all the polys that vanish, but it also creates an increased chance for the damn game to crash. It's extremely confusing, annoying, and not only that, I'm am freakin exhausted at the moment from trying to figure this crap out.

I realize my computer might not be one of these new, made-to-order things with lots of stuff pre-installed on 'em but it doesn't suck.. it's a 1.4 atelon (or however you spell it) with 512 ram, and a gf3.. if I can run doom 3 and sim city 4, why oh why in the hell is this happening?

Are you able to take pictures when this happens? Can you show us what you're seeing?

Have ya tried turning off (or on) Vertex Shader in the game preference? Are all your drivers updated?

Doom3 and other games work differently than SL so that is no indication of haw well SL will or should run.

what I meeeent by the doom 3 thing, is that it's graphics-sucking good fun.. *ahem* aaand here you are, images of said problem.

(yes I know, my body sticks out from under the pants.. and until I can find a properly "ripped" pair of jeans or make my own, those are just going to have to do.) as you can see, I'm standing there, cute and cuddly and.. well, cute ^^; the second picture is an example of the problem I'm having.. something I nicknamed "I only have eyes for you" becuase when in basic human form, unless you have a hair attachment or something, you only see those peepers.

the first image is also with the vector thingy turned off, and nope, not once did torsos vanish.. although it was excesively slow, and it stalled into torsoless mode several times, but then went right back into correct mode. ..then crashed for no reason at all, with no warning.

resizing still works to restore the graphics, it's just annoying becuase of how often I have to do it.

and I indeed uploaded the images.. I've got no idea if they'll show up, though.

My home system is similar to yours and I've seen the same problem in UT2004 and Far Cry. The only solution I've found is to downgrade to the (very old) 44.03 drivers. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_44.03.html I still occasionally see things disappear, but I no longer crash.

ah, thanks.. however, unfortunatly, I decided to just do a whole upgrade.. and I don't seem to have that problem anymore, just a slightly different one. I think for some reason my new(ish) radeon card is causing a bsod, or something else maybe.. (is a X600XT) I can't tell becuase the bsod screen just goes by so fast @@; but yeah, thanks for the help, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to suggest them.
