whenever I run the SL Exe it tells me I have an outdated Intel Chipset. I've updated my chipset several times and it still tells me this so tell it to ignore this fact and start SL anyway. when SL begins to startup I get an error that says "Can't Create GL Rendering Context" which causes SL to quit. I just installed SL today and would really like to try it, so if anyone has any idea how to fix this problem don't hesitate to post it.

thanks

Intel chipsets are not supported by SL. They just can't handle what SL does.

The good news is that a cheap SL-capable card (Geforce 5200 or so) is pretty durn cheap nowadays.

"Chipset" vs. "Video Drivers"...

LeVar -

Have you tried the DownloadFinder at Intel.com? If the term "chipset" is actually being used, then the system is referring to your motherboard drivers; NOT your video-card drivers (as Lordfly was assuming).

If you are certain you have downloaded and installed the very latest chipset drivers/software for your version of Windows from Intel.com, and you are still getting this problem - then I suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling SecondLife.

Laptops are still struggling to support 3D stuff very well - so it may be a bit of a challenge to get it running. (At least, with a "2Go" video card, I'm assuming you're running this on a laptop). But it should be do-able... Best of luck!

Take care,

I had the same messages when I first started SL. The downloads from Intel did the trick :)

As a side note (it may not apply in this case), if your nVidia or ATI card is an addon card to a system that already had built-in video (like Intel), you should double-check that the built-in card is disabled BOTH in Windows, and in the system BIOS.

In Windows, it should be disabled (not removed) in the Control Panel, under System, in the Device Manager.

The BIOS is the basic system that runs the computer (before Windows fires up). Accessing it usually involves pressing a key (DEL, F10, etc.) during the initial startup sequence. Look for a message telling you what to press to enter Setup. Be careful: Here there be dragons (or at least, important settings that do Very Bad Things when misconfigured). You're looking for Onboard Video: Disable, or an equivalent setting. If you're not comfortable changing this sort of thing, locate your nearest computer geek.
