1.5.10 is up on preview. It actually has the crash fix that was supposed to be in 1.5.9. I'd really appreciate it if some people who have been suffering from the crash in 1.5.8 and 1.5.9 could try it out and let me know if they crash. If you don't crash on Preview then you can hack the preview executable to connect to the main grid. This is how you do it for Windoze (I don't know how to do it for Mac): Right-click the preview shortcut on the desktop and select 'Properties'. In the 'Target' editor remove the '--colo' argument. Run the preview, it should log in to the regular grid. Please post feedback here, where it is success or disaster. Thanks.

BTW, if you remove the '--colo' argument to the Preview shortcut you'll disable future connections to the Preview unless you:
(a) put the '--colo' argument back or (b) remove the shortcut and reinstall the Preview (c) uninstlal/reinstall Preview

I just started repeatedly crashing on 1.5.9 this afternoon. The initial crash ocurred when I teleported into a high-lag sim. After that, regardless of location, if I teleported or even logged on, I was unable to move and then after a minute or two would crash.
I suspect it is because I had my draw distance increased to 192m up from its usual 64m. After dropping my draw distance to 64m, things became more stable without having to upgrade my client.
I went into preview but it did not prompt me to install 1.5.10, so I entered with the 1.5.8 client and set my distance to 512m. The bandwidth on the preview grid is amazing and I was able to run at 512m with only minimal rubberbanding. Normally, as I said previously, I have draw distance set to 64m and movement is amazingly realistic and fluid there. If the crashing is bandwidth related, testing it in preview might not provide accurate results.

The preview should now require an update to 1.5.10.

I've been in the 1.5.10 preview for over 10 minutes teleporting as much as possible and have not crashed yet. I was definitely one of the people who was suffering from the crash problems in .8 and a bit in .9
1.5.10 "seems" to have fixed my crashing at least for now.
Thanks for working on these problems for us.

How to add/change Arguments for starting Mac client?

So does someone know how to do this for the Macintosh client? Thanks!

I tried the preview grid with 1.5.10, set my draw distance to 512m and immediately froze and crashed. Ignore my previous hypothesis about bandwidth.

When it comes to running the preview install on the main grid, I asked one of the other developers, and these are the instructions I got for explicitly launching the preview executable with the right argument:
Open a command line console.
From the directory that contains the Second Life MacOS executable: $ cd Second\ Life.app/Contents/MacOS $ ./Second\ Life --agni
Basically, find the executable and pass it the '--agni' argument instead of '--colo'.

LOL! Am I wrong or it SHOULD be their work? Anyway, I was not crashing more than usual with 1.5.9, but lag is making SL almost unplayable for me.

I just downloaded the preview, but my login details don't work ("check you don't have caps lock on", etc.). Exactly the same details work fine 100% of the time on the 'real' SL. Any ideas?

Yeah, the Preview database snapshot is from October 13th. If you joined SL after the snapshot then your account does not exist in the Preview database.

I sent an IM on this, but I'm posting it here for a more detailed record. I currently cannot play SL at all. When 1.5.10 first came out, everything was fine. No crashing. I was in for probably 6 straight hours. Then I left, then came back for about a half hour. Then crash. This was last night. Probably a good thing, because it was past bedtime. I came back in this morning, crash. I'm crashing every 5-10 minutes. I've lowered all my graphics settings to about as low as they can go, and muted the sound. My vid card and CPU are cold. I wasn't crashing this often at all in 1.5.7, 1.5.8, or 1.5.9 (I've only been at this a week, so 1.5.7 was my first version). 1.5.7, crashes were ungraceful. Lockups, had to reboot. 1.5.8 and 1.5.9, crashes were fewer, and gracefully dumped me to the OS. Again. 1.5.10 *seemed* to fix all, but by 1am PT, something had happened differently. I've tried clearing the cache in the Application Data folder. I've tried removing all attachments besides clothing. I've tried being in high-traffic areas and low-traffic areas. It's crashed while I'm standing perfectly still for a while. It doesn't seem to matter. I send in a crash report almost every time, so there's lots of data. Thanks! for working on this stuff! Luna
