As posted in another thread, if an application is causing your ADSL modem to disconnect, you've got problems outside of anything related to SL. If you are using software on your PC to handle your ADSL modem, you might benefit by purchasing a broadband router (my preference is a D-Link 614) and letting it handle your ADSL modem separately. Otherwise, you might need to have your ISP check your line for noise or other issues. Under no circumstances should SL or any program running on your system cause your ADSL modem to hard-disconnect.

I'm with Talarus on this one. Nothing in SL 'should' be able to crash your ADSL modem. That's not to say that you're not suffering from serious problems, Kat, just that we need more information. for example: Do you have a router as well as your ADSL modem? And is it wireless?

My best advice is to avoid DSL completely and switch to cable broadband if it is available in your area.
Typically, DSL has more packet loss than cable. Also, the really high speed DSL's seem to muck around with packet ordering. SL doesn't handle either of these well.
