I have tried on several occasions to get an answer to my question and so far I have not gotten a response. I joined Second Life on 21 September 2005. Today is 27 January 2006. During this period of time I have sent many referrals to my friends to join SL. Of those, at least 5 have told me they have join with a basic account. To date I have only received the bonus for two of those five. Most recently, a very good friend who works in the same build as I do joined sl and has the name of Ian Clay. He answer the referral email that I sent through the referral page. That was over two weeks ago and I still have not received my referral bonus. I was told someone was going to check into it but have not received a response. I also requested the CD referral package, that was over 2 to 3 weeks ago and have not received them as well. Other than these two points I have been extremely happy with the way Linden Labs, and the linden have responsed to my request. Any any Linden please help me with this one. The extra lindens will help me stay in the program. Thank you very much for your assistance in getting this matter resolved.

Thank you very much for your assistance in getting this matter resolved. George, I'm speculating as I don't actually know, but ... When your friends are 'registering' for their basic accounts have the entered your Second Life e-mail account in the 'referred' box ... I don't remember the exact details, but when registering for SL one of the fields is for a referred by e-mail address. I'm guessing that the one's sign-up bonus you haven't received 'forgot' to enter your e-mail address in the field? Not sure this helps you though, but maybe you can confirm this with them and then contact Linden Labs? Regards Leon |

If they properly entered your SL name as their "Referrer", you should have gotten the referral bonus. But if they mis-spelled it, or failed to enter it, you get nothing.
It's a moot point now, for any future referrals. They have stopped giving Referral Bonuses for Basic Accounts.. The policy change quietly went into effect yesterday... However, if both you and the people who say they listed you as their referral contact LL, they should make good on the ones before the 26th of this month. |

Yeah it sure was quiet! Oh well chalk it up to history......But does that mean now my wife can sign up for a basic account and not have to provide a credit card? She tried before but when using my credit card it told us we had to pay because I already had one account.....I was told by a linden that I could have up to five separate accounts on one credit card. She wants to play too.

I went and looked at the New User Signup, as it stands now.
After you pick a name, give it your birthdate, and give it an e-mail address to find you by, you go to the second page, where it gets your "Real Name" information. It now offers two ways to verify your ID. By a credit card, as before, or by a 'mobile phone'. I think you have to be using a cell phone with text messaging capabilities to go that route, but it doesn't require a credit card. I didn't take it any farther at that point, since I had no need of another account. But up to there, it was willing to let me sign up for a free basic account. So I would suppose that if my RL spouse entered their personal info on that page, and used the cell phone option to verify their ID, they could get a free basic account that wasn't billed as "an alt" of me. I didn't see any indication that I could sign up using PayPal any more, either. Maybe that is under the credit card options, as up to the point where I bailed out, it still hadn't asked me for any credit card details. {Edit} Of course, if your wife has a credit card in her own name, she could use that... {/Edit} |
