Ok, I've an odd issue happening.
SL runs fine, no issues on my desktop.
However on my laptop, about once a week, when I launch SL, it starts clearing the cache, losing all my settings, resetting the typing animation, window sizes and placements, even my log in info (name and the option for last location, I don't save my pw) are cleaned out.
I was fine last week, was on it Sunday for hours with no issues. Fired it up this morning and wham, clearing cache. I've hunted around and can't find anything tht seems to indicate this was somehow turned on/enabled.
Anyone else have this? Or know how to disable this lovely "make you reload all the textures" feature?
Thanks in advance,

I believe when you press the clear cache button, it sets a flag in one of the configuration files to alert the client to perform the operation at next start up. It sounds like this flag is never being turned off. It could be some sort of permission issue, wher the client isn't able to update the file on disk. I would say your best bet is to completely uninstall the client, completely remove the client's directory under "Program Files", and completely remove the directory under "C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR LOGIN NAME]\Application Data\SecondLife" Then reinstall the client. If that doesn't work, you have permission to do bad things to me.

Perhaps one of the crashes I experience did something, just odd it's only once a week. I'll uninstall and wipe the directories tonight and start fresh. *grumble mumble gets the crop just in case* No synching software. I prefer to have my systems as stand alones and either temp share files as needed on my network or transfer them thru usb 40gig drives. I did suspect a corrupted installation, just was being lazy, lol.

oh, I missed the part about it only happening once a week. hmm. Do you have any "registry cleaners" or other such rubbish running? Something that may try restoring old files? It still sounds very odd. Do you notice any other files reverting back to previous states?

No cleaners or auto running updates on this laptop. I suspect it's within SL itself though as it's when I double click the icon to launch it that it starts and it's most definitely the viewers cache clearing message showing, I tested clear cache on another laptop and it looked the same. Guess I'll find out next week when it is time to clear the cache, or so it thinks, lol.

Does it say "clearing Cache", or is it just saying "Initializing Texture Cache"? I get the "Initializing Texture Cache" on a regular basis, I think that's normal.

If I recall correctly, each time you launch SL you see the initializing cache message. This is most definitely not that. It does say clearing cache and usually takes a couple of minutes to flush it and then SL loads to the log in page. It's just this one laptop also. My others and my desktop never experience this, lol.

clearing the cache manually with the old delete key, circumnavigates having to use the client and its 'flags' for anything, just don't delete useful files lol.. or you will be ruthed for a while.
