Hi All I just joined tonight. A good friend pointed me to this world. Now...not being new to virtual worlds BUT being new to SL...I have NO idea how to find the greeter I chose...how to type in the IM area that pops up when I click it, OR where we type to someone who is passing us by in real time. I feel like a stranger in a lost continent. Where can I find literature on the how tos...Thanks in advance

From: VzNevada Menoptra Hi All I just joined tonight. A good friend pointed me to this world. I feel like a stranger in a lost continent. Where can I find literature on the how tos...Thanks in advance Down at bottom of your screen is the CHAT window. Just type in there. When an IM pops up... it's meant to speak to people in private. You can RIGHT CLICK on a person and IM them for a "whisper" chat that no one else can hear. Feel free to ask lots of questions; as Gabe noted above, folks are friendly. And if you want to explore a fairly safe area that's lots of fun (unabashed plug coming up... LOL) click MAP/REGION/ELVENGLEN and check out the three sims there. Everyone on those sims is friendly... as are most folks on SL. Don't let anyone talk you into buying anything much until you get a feel for the game. Don't worry.. you'll learn fast. I mean.. you found these forums, didn't you? OH... HI OSPREY! : DDDD

just takes time; took me three or four days to really get a handle on all the UI options and stop running into walls - sometimes just 'walking practice' is a big deal, lol!! 'flying practice' is a lot more fun (though i understand that some of the new 1.7 lagtimes might interfere some with that - not inworld at this period of time, so can't say fersure, just what i've read) - try using 'mouseview' more (or whatever the first-person camera mode is called now, if they've changed it . you can target a friend via the map, and chase 'em 'round the sky!! very fun, and useful - i got to the point where i was often flying more than walking. (seemed to help with running into walls, prevent falling thru the ground/floors, etc the grid's a big place to explore, but the sl client and all the options are themselves a lot to explore. just take it a step at a time, learn a lil' each day... hope you have fun in sl!!
