How long are you waiting?
01-01-2005 23:08
Gina -
How long are you waiting? Because the servers aren't back to 100%, you may still experience a slower response than normal - at least that's what I understand. So are you giving it a few minutes to log in? Takes me up to 4 minutes - seems like a long time when I'm staring at a clock. Are you getting any specific error message or crash? Have patience

If your inventory is rather big, like most players who have been here a while you "will" take longer to load than normal, the recent update made it so you no longer time out when connecting. What this means is longer load times, but you "should" get in, you just have to wait longer. I myself have had to wait up to 5 and a half minutes to log in. I don't mind I go and grab a snack.

NOT the Update...
01-02-2005 10:25
Just a clarification:
The update did NOT cause the wait to be longer. The recent hardware / DB wackiness is what increased the wait times when logging in. There was a problem with longer wait times that caused the client to hang / not log in; and that was FIXED in the update. Take care, --Noel "HB" Wade (Tread Whiplash) |

The problem I'm experiencing (same as the original poster's) is that it gets to "Preparing Inventory" and then hangs - the OS marks Second Life as "Not Responding". I let it sit for about a minute and a half, and it eventually unclogged itself and (another minute later) completed the sign-in process.
If any Lindens are reading this thread, do you have any idea what's causing the temporary hang at the Prep Inventory phase? |

same thing!
01-02-2005 17:08
me and taalon moreau are having the exact same problem. we get stuck at prep inventory, and the little blinky bar stops blinking, then after a while it starts going again, but it still wont log in. at least the quit button works later on.

You guys aren't letting it wait long enough. It takes a couple minutes now, but it DOES eventually make it in.

very disappointing
01-02-2005 18:14
I am normally most reasonable and few times ever have bad things to say but the wait to log in is now ridiculous, sometimes 4 minute or longer, and I have never hear of any game which takes so long to log on. I am sure this will put MANY people off and hope its not a permanent thing only temp fix. Also it might be ok to bear IF it didnt then crash many times every hour, it's just got worse and worse lately.
when not frozen lag, or crashed ur waiting to relog many times each hour. All the log queue means is u wait longer instead of constant attempt to get in and failing. Either way its most disappointing, Sl used to be much better and stable for hours, it's poor indeed now. When u wait so long to log then crash within a minute then do it again and again, its so anoying |

Loss of Service

I think at this point the Lindens should be offering some compensation for loss of service. These issues are now well into the four day.

I've logged in and out all day. Unfortunately, you have to get in before you see the MOTD to wait and not keep trying, but the login queue times are not bad at all. I don't think I've waited more than a couple of minutes, tops, today. The trick is to be patient. You will get in.

Please be patient
01-02-2005 20:58
Let the client wait and complete its process - it is not wedged but waiting for the queue to clear so the login can complete. If you close the client while it is waiting for an opening you may receive a "... no longer responding" message and you will have to queue up again when you try the next time.
Be patient, let it wait for its login and you will be connected to your Second Life. see: /3/43/31448/1.html#post326102 _____________________

this is unnaceptable
01-04-2005 15:33
I am sorry but this is unacceptable. I am very fed up of this already and resent it greatly. I have now made MANY MANY attempts to get back in after about the 15th crash today, and each has taken between 4 and 6minutes and all have failed. Now it wont compete at all gives error. I hate to complain but i must on this.
Patient yes, we all are for a very long time we always are. but this very bad considering the money we all pay. I already pay $195 a month and want to pay more. Many pay several times that. There are how many thousands paying now? Waiting more than 5 minutes in todays internet age to log on, this is not acceptable. If the world of SL has been expanded so fast to get new subscribes yet that now we are forced to 'queue' to get in something is wrong in the way this plan is made. Its MOST important that we customers can get in properly not just expanding so fast that its technically impossibel to get or stay on without a lot of trouble. Wrong attitude. Please fix this, is not fair and not right. Making us wait so long is not the answer. Improve the system please. I love this game we all do but you have GOT to fix this because this is killing it for many reasonable normally non-complaining paying customers, loyal people who suppoet LL yet who now who feel this is unfair and badly thought out. |

Yeesh... Attempt #10 of 10... no login...
This queue thing seems to be one hell of a band-aid (and its falling off) for a temporary fix. What's the login server anyway? An old VAX unit? ![]() And I thought my accessing Second Life back in December of 2002 with 14.4 baud dialup was irritating before I got broadband. ^^' _____________________

What The Thud is taking so long in the login process ? Isn't that supposed to be a password challenge/response and a few initializations ? The asset servers and the Sim are doing the heavy lifting, that should leave little to do to the login server, so why the incredible delays ?

Took me awhile... like, the length of a full trance epic club mix, but I got back in.
Actually, I just feel even more grateful to get in nowadays... I hope it's fixed soon though. ![]() _____________________

Once again we are locked out of sl because of some login issue or hardware/software problems. How about fixing this issue and moving on?

Yesterday my client sat in the 'queue' for three hours, from 7pm to 10pm. Then I restarted the client, and it sat for about 20 mins before logging in. Who cares if it is waiting in a queue? If it still hasn't logged in after three hours, it's a queue that isn't moving. Don't bother to pretend there is a working service until the customer with the WORST login experience can get in with a time under 20 seconds. Anything more is just below what is acceptable. |

Well, my login following the work, was about 20 seconds, so I'm OK.
