System freezes 10 sec after application start

I am new to SL and havent been able to get inside as my application keeps freezing.

System specs:

Compaq nc6000

Microsoft XP pro SP2
Intel Pentium 1600 MHz
512 MB RAM
ATI Mobility RADEON 9600

Any advice? Thanks a lot

More RAM for sure, I ran 512 MB for awhile it was miserable. Finally got my RAM up to 1.5 GB and its somewhat better now.
