While changing clothes....

I'm new to the game. When I change my clothes, or appearance, my avatar begins to change colors rapidly swapping through assorted outfits and random colors. When I am changing appearance, my avatar loses his facial features, making it difficult to know how and what I want to tweak.

Also, I cannot edit my facial shape. I tried on an outfit I did not like, it altered my face and now I "do not have permission to modify this wearable" even though I took off all clothes before editing appearance.

Is this my graphics card, or a SL glitch?

Your crash log indicates that you're using Intel Extreme graphics, which don't meet our Minimum System Requirements.

Surely this has nothing to do with the graphics card, Lee?
Atomic - were you not perhaps wearing a no-mod shape? Removing your clothes doesn't remove the shape settings. Try wearing or createing another shape.

Atomic: Do you have a separate 3D graphic card installed in your computer? Lee's point is valid that "Intel" graphics don't work well for dynamic 3D. System requirements recommend nVidea or ATI (see link for detail) so it might be worth upgrading your card.

Intel cards seem to do wonky things with avatars and textures depending on what drivers are installed (since we're making OpenGL cards they don't really support). That could cover the texture changing part.

The permissions are a bit different. A typical cause of that would be adding a no-modify texture to a skin, which (I believe) would make the skin no-modify as well.

Crashing

I have a problem. I'm trying to log into second life for the first time. It logs in fine and then when it gets to connecting to the server, it always crashes and goes back to the desktop around the time that it says "connecting to region". I've tried to fix it by messing with my router and that didn't seem to get me anywhere. How can I actually get in to play the game?

Well, that's a very different situation. (It's always best to start a new thread when you're a bit off-topic.) Try this page:
