Hi, I just downloaded this game yesterday, and my avatar is messed up. When I am in editing appearences it looks just fine, but when I save and exit to the game, it gets all messed up. The face has stuff on it, and the clothes are messed up looking. I don't think it's my video card because other people can see it also. I'm not sure if anyone else posted this, but I'm too lazy to read it all.. sorry. Can anyone help? It's really annoying. Thanks.

YOOO Lucid... Welcome to Second Life! Ah, this has happened to me. As strange as it sounds, try this: for each item on your av that is messed, change the color/tint to something different, and then save the item again. For example, I have a white shirt -- I temporarily tint that blue, and then save and close the Appearance window. Then, open Appearance again, and change the colors back to what they were before. Hope this works for you!

Simply resaving in Appearance doesn't work, but doing so after a retint will. And I... have clones. Oh, actually, I wish I did. Then I could get more done. We all could! *sighs*

Yes, I've had a problem similar to what you describe -- although it sounds like yours may be different since that doesn't work. *thinks* Actually, I think you're online right now. Hold on while I try to TP you over and get a good look at what's happening to you.

Update: the glitch looks like this... Thanks to Snapzilla for hosting. Bug reports have been filled accordingly, as this seems to be a persistent problem that keeps coming back even through changing avatars, relogging, TPing, etc.

Actually, it probably IS your video card. Yes, even though everyone else can see it. The way avatar textures work is this: your client downloads the various texture layers and then assembles them (bakes them) into one finished image. It then uploads that image back to SL, where it's made available for download. So if there's any rendering errors on your end, they'll get baked into the texture as well.
That said, what make and model of video card do you have? Is it possible that it's being improperly cooled or powered?

Wow, that's strange Cat -- I never knew that before. I learn something new every day. It's especially bizarre because Lucid's avs showed up *fine* for about 10-15 seconds upon changing into each one (as I requested him to test) before the glitchy graphics began again.
I'm curious to hear what solves this... hopefully soon.

I've got the same problem - I'm going to try & re-install my graphics card drivers.

Hi Everyone
04-16-2005 12:56
Be sure to email support@secondlife.com, they are always there to help, also. The Texture and skin ripping effect on avatar is a result of a bad "bake" on a video card. It could be either bad or corrupted drivers, or it could be the video card itself. The fix is to have them 1) first go into appearance, and edit most of her sliders..on the clothing and the avatar itself. Even if that means only by a teeny bit. Then save and exit. This will re"bake" the image and upload it into SL. If this doesn't work, 2) Client uninstall and reinstall, but chances are it's not going to help, just to make sure it's not a cache issue. If this still fails, 3) try driver uninstall and reinstall. Then repeat step one. And if it's still all borked, it could be a bad vid card, or a hardware conflict with Vid card, and you may be having problems elsewhere on the computer as well. Hope this helps Adam
