I just got XM radio and you can hear it online via web station. Now I am wondering if I can get those feeds through SL. Mainly to share with people at my house. Just asking if anyone has done it and how to do it?

Hello Bing

That would be great if we can. Let me know if you can.

What player do you use to listen to it online?

This is one of those areas where our intuition about real spaces fall apart in virtual spaces. Even if you were technically able to get the XM stream into SL, you'd be in breach of their terms of service. This is "funny" in that you can have your friends come over to your real house and listen to your XM receiver and everything is fine, but your SL house is different (at least according to XM) :
You may download one copy of the Content to any single computer for your personal, non-commercial home use only, provided that you keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices. You may not otherwise reproduce, perform, distribute, display or create derivative works from the Content.
As getting it streamed to others would be a "reproduction" or "distribution", you'd be breaking your contract with XM. I wouldn't narc you out, but you pretty much already did that yourself. I'm also guessing that XM has done things that would make this pretty technically difficult anyway.

the reality is that SL doesn't actually handle the stream, but acts as a player/tuner for each individual client....

that makes it indistinguishable from multiple clients on multiple computers (which XM says is a no-no)....

if SL recieved the stream at their server, and then rebroadcast it on your land, you could prbably get away with it, or at least XM'x lawyers might not hunt you down... but that's not going to happen.

SL is considered (despite imposable access restrictions) "public space" just as is any web site, where a physical residence is considered personal (never mind if your house is party central for your neighborhood)

so on the legal side of things, not a good idea

on the physical side, since you are only allowed one connection, and each person on your land connects seperately, that'd probably get your acount automatically shut down. they don't like adding bandwidth... no one does.
