Although WEAR works normally to attach new objects to your hand, or old objects to their normal places... it seems that 'Attach To...' seems to be 100% busted. This pretty much kills prim avatar and avatar accessory makers for the time being, and they're gonna be fuming. :(

- Create a cube.
- Take the cube into inventory.
- Now try to attach that cube to you /without/ using Wear.

Dunno about anyone else, but 'Attach To...' does nothing now. :(

Aye Major problem
09-14-2006 11:45
I too tried every thing. Logging out back in etc. Taking off all my attachments and only try to attach one thing - (thot mayhap they installed a stealth prim limit for attachmetns) - no deal

'Attach To' is broken. I did file a Bug Report.

Sad to say my day off is now half a loss. I can create - but not place in the proper area.

Update: Yes attaching after dropping is still working. I paniced. Off to make more stuff and Attach It !!

I filed a bug report for this too. I create hair, and I had just finished one and tried to attach to skull, nothing happened... kept trying.. still nada. Wear works but attach is a no go it seems :( I hope they can fix this soon, its very frustrating to spend hours creating something and then not be able to finish it...

Lets all cross our fingers and hope they fix this soon !

Hugs to all my fellow frustrated creators :)

It only seems to affect attaching directly to a point from the inventory, though. You can still drop things and attach them in-world as a workaround.

Same here. "Attach to" does nothing. Don't know what they would have done that would have changed this, and can't see how they missed it.

The thing that burns me is reporting packet loss secondary to all these things in the previous weeks when they were working... now they comment out the packet loss catching code and all these inventory things that were causing it aren't working at all.

I guess on the good side I'm finding and reporting the specific things that were causing it now. ;)

I'm having a problem too but it should work the right way, not just the drop on the ground way. I still can't seem to copy my own stuff and paste it like before to my backup folder. Seems attaching and copying aren't working at all.

Good, I"m glad that somebody has started this thread. I've tried many many times to change an attach point on the hud and was unable to. Its very frustrating.
Also, the bottom part of the HUD screen seems to be unclickable. I have to move the HUD attachments up out of that area before I'm able to click on them.
Just some of my frustrations. ARG!

It doesn't seem to me that LL could possibly be attempting to run through a comprehensive "test every option" process done by humans who are expected to be looking at the screen and paying attention before they release code. They miss blatantly obvious problems in the interface almost every time they release new code.

Okay, it's been stated that you can still attach, but it's clunkier for now.

- Rez item to be attached on the ground.
- Rightclick it
- Select More
- Select Attach To
- Select place to attach.

So basically, you can attach to, but you have to jump through an extra small hoop to do so.

This is true about the pie menu. If you notice the pie menu does not have all the attchment spots. I can't attach any necklace or collar to my chest since its not a choice in the menu. So not all the parts are showing in that.

Workaround for Attachments menus no longer working
09-16-2006 11:21
Just posted on SLExchange and SLBoutique as a freebie:

http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=124692&random=38894

http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?p=buy&itemid=121457

The notes:

"Attach on Touch" script by Hoshi Kiama

This script was written as a workaround for us not being able to attach objects to an attachment point of our choosing. I'm making it available freely to all of SL in the hopes that it will help to make your second life a little better. Tips and ratings are always appreciated in a show of gratitude if you feel so inclined.

The "Attach on Touch" script in the original box should be inactive. Once you copy it to another object it should come to life and you should see messages in the local chat.

Please give copies to others in the original box with this note since the script is self deleting.

Instructions:

Rez an object that you have modify permissions on that you wish to attach and copy this script to it. (Copy only the script... the script looks for this note and deactivates itself if it finds it)

It will prompt you for the area (HUD, head, torso, legs, arms) that you wish to use then prompt you with the possible attachment points for that area.

Once you've selected your attachment point it will ask for permission to attach to your avatar.

HUD attachments will attempt to move the object onto the screen far enough for you to edit it's placement no matter what attachment point on the HUD was selected.

Once the attachment is done the script will delete itself from the object.

The object will retain this new attachment point as it's default, that is to say, now you will be able to wear the item to continue to use this new attachment point.

Nightstar, all the attachment points are there, just hidden in sub-pie menus, for example chest is under 'torso'

It's especially frustrating to try and put earrings on this way - by having to drag the little boogers to the ground first.

I hope the script works :)
