What am I doing wrong. I select JUST the clothe in this case a bikini on a implant nation mod but the entire breast and clothe changes instead of just the desired flesh tone /bikini colors. I hope I make sense. There must be something that ties the two together I'm missing. I've practiced and I can make shapes and walls and balls now. this SHOULD be easy but I'm stumped.

Is this an actual clothing item or an attached object?

Sorry, but I have no idea what an "implant nation mod" is. Remember, there are hundreds of thousands of people in SL, all making at least SOMETHING. Try to keep in mind that the chances that any one person will know of any particular item, or even a particular brand name, are fairly slim.

To get the best possible answer to your question, please provide a more complete description of what the item is (or better yet, a picture of it), and what you're trying to do with it.

I think I might know what you are referring to, if it's not an attachment. Other than that I have no clue. I just press CTRL-ALT-R to rebake my avatars textures, wait a few seconds/minutes, and the problems solved. I don't know what this implant nation mod is though.

This is a long shot, but are you trying to make a bikini top that is basically skin-colored, like making pasties? I ask only because you refer to changing the "desired flesh tone/bikini colors." If that's what you're doing, you don't have to paint the flesh-toned part. In fact if you do, it will probably not match your avatar's skin and will look lousy. Instead, create your alpha channel so that the only visible parts of the bikini are the parts that are NOT flesh-toned. Better still, if you really are making pasties, forget the whole plan. They'll look better as prim attachments.

I told you this was a long shot.

I guess I need to describe better. this is a set of supe boobs in a package. in that package they have sets of boobs (implants) that have swimsuits attatched to them. Mine were pink and I wanted to try black. I selected teh suit and clicked black and now the whole breast is black. suit flesh all of it. worse. when I tried to go back to the pink suit flesh boob I couldnt if I chose pink siut the whole thing boob and suit change as one item. not a good look so now I cant use it. :( maybe this helps?

If the bikini part is a separate prim from the flesh part, then turn on Select Texture* in the editor to apply color and/or texturing to one surface at a time. Just tick the radio button on, and then click to select whatever surface you want to affect. You can also shift-click to add additional surfaces to the selection, if you want to affect more than one at a time.

If it's all one prim, and the bikini was simply painted onto the texture, then to fix it, you'll need to change it back to whatever color it was in the first place (probably white). In that case, the only way to change the color of the bikini without also changing the color of the flesh would be to make an entirely new texture.

*Note: Select Texture is a misnomer. It would be more accurate if it were called Select Surface, since that's what you're actually doing. This confuses a lot of people in the beginning, so if you're one of them, you're not alone. There really should be a 3-way toggle for Select Whole Objects, Select Individual Prims, and Select Individual Surfaces. This would be in line with how more traditional 3D modeling programs do it. But for whatever reason, the powers that be seem to think Select Texture makes sense. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time now.

We are locked out right now I think but this makes total sense and Im sure its what the problem is. The suit is removable tI think so it must be a second prim. If has to be because it came with tint balls for both items.

thank you much kiss kiss!
