I hate to ask this question because I know it's stupid. Please have mercy on me.
I want to create some clothing - I have a texture I want to use on SL, which is full permission. I only want to use it for part of the clothing, though, so I can't just do it all on SL. How do I get the texture off of SL so I can put it on the template in Gimp and make what I want, then upload it back onto SL? Is that even possible?
Second question - is there a way to make a shiny texture that reflects the light like patent leather or vinyl? I know I can use a leather or vinyl texture and add shading in the right places to give the illusion of reflection (or at least someone with talent could do that), but I mean actual reflection.
Thanks in advance - any help is appreciated.

Just open the texture from your inventory, go to the File Menu and select "Save" (or whatever it's called, I'm not in-world). You can only do that with full-perm textures, but it's been handy for me when I needed to grab an old version of one of my own textures that I had lost. .

Currently, no. Second Life doesn't support "actual reflection" of any kind at all. I've seen some pretty excellent work on leather and vinyl shading, though. Maybe that would be sufficient? .

thanks for the help. I figured there would be a way to pull the texture out. I have a really nice one that Ithink would make a pretty cool pair of pants, but I want to modify it. I'll practice shading and see if I can get the effect I want. If nothing else, it will be fun.
