Created fancy curved text in Illustrator 9, saved as a .ai and also a .eps file...opened the file in Photoshop...did the whole alpha channel thing...but now photoshop won't let me save as a .tga file...why??? why why why??? I have rasterized the file and not rasterized the file, I have saved it as a jpg in photoshop to reopen and try the alpha channel...no .tga option shows when I try to save the file...HELP!

It's probably opened in CMYK (Illustrator files should default to it), you'll need to change the mode to RGB before it will save as a TGA in Photoshop.
In Photoshop CS2 this is done by going to the menu and selecting:
Image->Mode-> RGB Color

It will probably be a little different in Photoshop 6, but look for "Mode".

I'm not sure if that's your problem. TGA handles CMYK just fine, and PS will read and write CMYK targas (most other apps won't read them, however).

If that doesn't do the trick for you the problem may be that the file is opening as a vector image rather than raster (path based instead of pixel based). Try going up to the layer menu and using "rasterize layer" to convert the vector information to raster. Then try and save it. I rarely deal with vector formats so I may be off base. Theoretically it should rasterize automatically when you save to a raster format such at TGA, but you might be getting vectors without strokes or fills in which case there'd be no raster info to save.
