Ok, when I upload a texture, if I'm just viewing it as a texture, it's fine, but if I try to view it as a clothing model, the entire preview window is shaded DARK BLUE and I can't make out any details on the clothing... it's totally worthless.

Do I need to fix something?

No. It actually is dark blue. Which isnt the best color to contrast anything against, really :(

It also has the twitchiest rotate and zoom controls, and if you manage to zoom your model offscreen, its near impossible to get back without cancelling and starting again. Unless someone knows different?

Could do with a 'recenter' button. And maybe a 16 color palette to select your own background. Since my royal blue outfit was a biatch to preview. grr.

I didn't know it had a zoom and pan capability. I was looking for it. What are the controls?

The controls are the same as the regular camera controls. Hold down alt-ctrl-lmb

All I know is that I've lost about L$200 in uploads that turned out to be worthless because I couldn't make out details in the worthless preview window.

LINDENS: Make the light in the preview window 100% white, no shadows, and much larger than what it is, PLEASE.

Aaron, I think the previewer uses the existing sim lighting for shading the preview mesh. When I'm working on stuff I always force daylight.

For those who don't know, to force daylight you need to have the debug menu active. If there's not a menu at the top of your screen named debug then it's not activated (it's hidden by default). To activate it press alt-ctrl-D.

To change the sun position go into mouselook by hitting M. In mouselook hit alt-M to turn on "mouse moves sun" and then put your cursor where you'd like the sun to be. Left click to set it and hit esc to exit mouselook.

No, it's not the sunlight... it's the same shade of dark blue all the time, regardless of sun position or time of day or night.

I know the background color doesn't change, but if you can see the mesh and texture well does it matter?

I CAN'T see the mesh and texture... It's so obscured in "dark blue-ness" it's practically worthless. NO details are able to be made out on the clothing and it's just plain yucky looking.

Here's what it looks like:

It shouldn't be like that... When viewing the same texture as just a texture, the colors are fine; there is no blue tint to it like that.

Yep. You're right. It shouldn't be like that. Have you tried turning on local lighting in prefrences to see if that makes a difference?

I had that disabled, so I enabled it. But it didn't make a change in the preview window. :(

hmmm, that sucks Aaron. Not really sure what to tell you. You might want to file a bug report or maybe someone else will have some ideas.

When you select a texture to upload it will first appear in a small preview window that shows the texture and has ok and cancel buttons. On that dialogue is a drop down list of display options. The default is to just show the texture, but you also have the option to preview it on male and femal avatar meshes.

I see : D

I see it .
I had been doing bulk uploads - last night I did just one and saw the option - but not too much help. I could only manage to get it to show me the front view, not sides where i wanted to see if things lined up. : (

Aaron, that looks like a video card glitch to me. Are you perhaps on a laptop or using an older or non-standard graphics card? If so, you may be out of luck without a hardware change, but here are a few things I would try:

Uninstall SL, and reboot, Make sure you have the very newest version of DirectX and the latest graphics drivers for your hardware installed. Once you're up to date on everything, re-install SL and hope for the best.

If that doesn't help, E-mail support@secondlife.com. They've always responded to my questions/problems within a day or two and they've always been very helpful.

Good luck.

With the most recent update, I got an email from Lindens telling me they made a change in the preview code that should have fixed my problem. It did! I can upload safely again! YAY!
