Jacket with a pattern

I've searched for answers on this and didn't find anything definitive or just didn't understand what was being said.

I am trying to make a top that is worn on the jacket layer because I need the additional length. I know that the texturing size (I guess that's it) isn't the same between the upper and lower body templates.

Is there an easy way to get the textures/pattern to match? Do I need to have the texture on the lower body be like 120% of what the upper is or what?

I can't seem to figure this out and it's very discouraging. Any help is appreciated.

Just use the clothing templates that Robin and Johan made and be sure that the pattern matches up at seams. Watch the colored match lines and expand or shrink your texture as needed.

The seams match on my base template, I was just wondering if there's a mathematical or easier way to get a pattern to match on both pieces since you can't really tell when you are working on each piece.

There isn't a mathematical way to do it, but it's quite possible to do it with a few iterations between files. Create a PSD file with your texture on the upper body template and a second PSD file with the texture on the Skirt or lower body template. Open both files next to each other on the screen and look at where the textures hit the match lines at the waist. Then stretch the texture on one -- the lower body image is probably easier -- until it hits the match lines at the same place as the texture on the other image. You may have to move one of the textures up-down or left-right to get the match exact. Then, to do the final adjustments, apply both of your image files to the mannequin in your SL Clothes Preveiwer ( so you can see if any minor tweaks with Liquify are necessary to make the match at the waist "perfect."

I generally make things on the pants layer about 85% and skirt layer about 65% of the top layer. These arent exact but they do get you close.

Thank you both, I will try these methods and hopefully get things closer. I appreciate the help.
