I'm not sure if i should have posted here or in the building section but i would imagine this would be the right place for this question.

Ok i've just recently joined a HomeStone as a Kajirea, my question is this.

How would i go about making silks, i can use photoshop too some extent so i'm alright on that front, i'm not very good though at building in world so any tips or weblinks too tutorials out there would be greatly received.

Thank you for help

Your best bet is to post in the building forum, since prim silks are "built" not simply textures.

That being said, I found nothing when I searched in the building forum myself that had anything to do with a "how to" on building silks. So, for the easiest and quickest how to here goes:

1. Rez a torus. Set the hole size to 0.05 and 0.05. Size to match your hips.

2. Rez a cylinder. Set hollow to 95%, cut to 0.25 and 0.75, turn upside down, then click the "flexi" button in the third tab of the edit menu.

3. Place top of cylinder on bottom of torus, outside edge.

4. Holding shift, drag one of the horizontal sliders to make a duplicate of your cylinder. Rotate 180 on the horizontal plane, then line it up with the opposite side of the torus from the first.

5. Using shift-click, select both cylinders and then the torus. Click the tools menu, click link.

You now have a silk skirt. All you have to do to it now is attach it to your pelvis and adjust the position.

You may get more detailed and add more prims as you wish, but this being just a quick-n-dirty how to, you've got the start of a silk building empire.

Again, post this in the building forum and you'll get much better answers and possibly someone there will be able to help you with the design aspect of it as well.

If by a silk texture, you mean a satin crumbly sort of thing, this is a lovely tutorial:

The tutorial that Virrginia suggested will show you just how to do that. Another good one is at http://www.tutorialjungle.com/display.php?t=silk. It's surprisingly easy to make an acceptable silk texture. You'll find links to several other tutorials by doing a simple search of the archive on this forum.

If you're looking to BUY silk textures instead of making one yourself, though, you're in the wrong forum.

The tutorial jungle link is wonderful for making it as easy as eating pie (not baking one, since I burn them) for a person unfamiliar with PS but button-curiosity to make a very simple silk texture. Now, for making it tileable (horizontally or vertically, or both) search the rest of the tuts. Lots of very useful information there.

I can't believe how easy it is to make folds with that tutorial!
