I'm struggling to make my first clothing item (a kilt) in Photoshop and it's costing a fortune in failed uploads! Result either looks stretched with details lost or has a huge white gap. Many thx if you can help! Zac.

Zac, the skirt template can be a little tricky. While it's the most basic of all the templates in the sense that it's just single limbless mass, its UV pattern is a little strange. It definitely has the most potential for distortion of any of the templates. I'd highly recommend uploading the template itself as a texture so you can see exactly how it falls on the av model. Make sure the UV map is visible when you do. You might also want to color many of the UV lines differently so you can be sure exactly which one is which.
From there you'll be able to see how differnt sections of the skirt expand, contract, or otherwise change shape as the 2D texture wraps around the 3D model. Then you can pre-distort the same sections of your image in the opposite way so that they appear straight and proper when on the model. Also, you can save yourself some upload costs by using the previewer before you upload. Oh, and by the way, I'd strongly encourage you not to put any RL personal info on these forums. SL is not entirely free of molevolent people. Some would love nothing better than to find a way to cause you grief just because they can. You should remove that E-mail address ASAP. _____________________

What Chosen said.
![]() ![]() If you have Poser, you can also import the Skirt.obj that the Lindens provided (thank you, Lindens!) and check the texture there. _____________________

If you're still working on this, I've made a men's kilt. I'd be happy to give you a copy for free to look at if you'd like to, just contact me in-game

as usual, chosen provides words of wisdom
![]() the skirt template can be a pain. One approach you can do is to compress your texture in your photo editing software in the area where the stretching occurs on the template. It's not ideal, but better than nothing. the other thing that bugs me is the gap between the skirt and one's body at the belt line |

It will be a little large on you when you try it on, but I have left it Modifyable, so you can fit it to your shape. It's located on SL Boutique and on SL Exchange right now, OR you may IM me in-game, and I will come and sell you a copy of it in a box. I don't have it up in my shop yet, need to get a picture of it first ![]() _____________________

Kilts

Hi Anyone looking for a kilt should stop by THE TARTAN SHOP. I have flexi kilts for both men and women and the ladies long formal flexi kilt. I also have the 21st zentury or Uitilikilts. Also have knee socks with flashes, brogue shoes, kilt shirts, prince Charles jackets, and many other items.
If all else fails, I make custome outfits and costumes. Just send me an IM.....Lacy217 McLuhan |
