Ok, So I have a picture of a dagger I want to makes into a tga, wanna get rid of the background Ok, so I add a alpha channel to this pic and select the white background with the color select Now I did a color to alpha to the white selected color Then I zoom in on the dagger, and there's holes in it I try to anti erase it, but a a funky color comes up Is there anyway to fix this, or anyways to prevent this ?! Would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use GIMP so this may not apply but I'd be really surprised if it doesn't have this feature. In PS there are two ways to select by color. One is the same as the method you used. You pick a color and a tolerance value (what range of similar colors will also be selected) and then PS selects that color everywhere it appears in the image. That's often not very useful as you've experienced there.
The other way is with the magic wand selection tool. You click on the color you want to select and PS selects all contiguous pixels within the color tolerance range. This is the method you want to use for an image like yours. This may have been what you did since it seems at the top of the blade tip there's not a strong enough outline to keep the selection from picking up the white highlights in the blade that are contiguous to the background.

Chip is correct, there is a magic wand tool in gimp that is perfect for this. just select in the white spot, reverse the selection, then erase everything in the selection. You may need to do some trim work with the eraser, as the wand isn't perfect, but it's a great way to get most of the background out of the way.

And you probably need to set the tolerance low so that the gray parts of your blade are not selected.
