I was on the computer the other night for like 2 hours messing with it until I just used PS7 for the transparents. I like using both for different things but for simple things i like PSP. Is there something im doing wrong?

PSP and alpha channels

Did you go through all the necessary hoops? It's a bit of a fiddle.
While some programs refer to the alpha channel purely as a transparency channel, PSP seems to have multiple alpha channels for a variety of uses. You have to create a mask with the required transparency, then save that into the alpha channel. Then when you save as a .tga it will write the transparency out. If you change the transparency, you need to delete the old contents of the alpha channel before saving the new mask into it. The export doesn't give any options as to what alpha contents it exports. Hope this helps |

Yeah I will try that. Also when I open a file in PS it seems to be much darker looking but even when I save it it looks normal. I am wondering if there is something with the settings in PS that is causing everything to look darker then it really is. Also if there is a "push" brush in PS. I use the Push alot for clothes.

In PS with the supplied templates, the working layer is set to like 45% opacity or something like that so you can see the template below... makes it look darker to me too. Just boost the opacity to 100% and it should look right.

Yeah, the masks are a pain. I don't know why PSP doesn't convert the total image transparency to an Alpha channel when exporting to TGA. The PNG exporter automatically creates the alpha channel. That's just another example of Jasc's crazy and somewhat erratic support for certain features.
Maybe we should petition LL to support PNG files? I built a PNG reader in one of my apps in all of 30 minutes; the source is open and free. Plus, PNG's are compressed, so they upload faster. _____________________

You don't have to work with masks in PSP. I never use them. Here's a tutoral link to learn how to do it without the masks. http://wave.prohosting.com/shebangs/alpha-psp.html

Wow, that helped alot... still though I mean... they should support the easier way. I will mess around with this. Also with the darkness issue in PS7 it isn't just the template files, just normal image files look darker too.
