Any new version will be slower than the previous one. However, did you check your settings? If you have a second hard drive and/or even a separate partition on your main drive, you might want to set photoshop to use that as a scratch disk.
And make sure the scratch disk isn't full. Photoshop uses hard disk drive space during normal operations, so a full disk will bog it down big time.
And, of course, if your system isn't maxed out on memory, you might want to consider more.
Just a few things to check.

One more tip about settings:
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Memory & Image Cache and play with the memory usage settings. If you've got a good amount of RAM, I suggest keeping Photoshop's memory usage at 50%, but every machine is different. Try a few different settings and see what works well, but make sure you give it at least 384MB, which is Adobe's recommended amount.
EDIT: Photoshop CS2 requires 320MB of RAM with 384 recommended. PS CS only required 192MB with 256 recommended. That's a huge difference, and that's probably your problem right there. If you don't have enough total RAM that you can devote 384MB to Photoshop and still have enough left for other memory-intensive programs like SL, then you're gonna have to get more memory. (This is all assuming Windows, btw. The Mac requirements are a bit different. The principle is the same though.)

I have a gig of ram and CS2 is getting 55% of it, I was looking at options cs had the cache option set to 4 CS2 had to 6 Im not sure what that is exactly i moved that bk to 4. I do have a partion on the drive Quin so will try changing the scratch disk as it was set to the start up one and see how that goes. Thanks.
