Say you have a skin you really love however the face has no makeup on it. Is it possible to create new makeup in photo shop and wear it somehow?

When I first started Sl I actually saw makeup for sale. Im curious how they did it.

Although it IS possible to buy prim eyebrows and eyelashes, makeup is an integral element of skin. That's why designers offer about 20 versions of each skin they sell, each differing from the next only in their shade of blush or eye shadow.

The old "Makeup" that you could purchase to add to your avatar was only usable with the default avatar skin. It applied a mostly transparent layer to the head's "Tattoo layer". But 99% of decent skins in SL, including virtually all of the default Library avatars these days, make use of a full-body skin that uses the tattoo layer for the head, upper body and lower body. So there's no layer free to put the "makeup" on as an add-on.

Normal skins today are either completely opaque, or have some translucency in the lips, cheeks and eyebrow areas, allowing the makeup sliders in the Appearance controls to have some minimal effect on the shin's appearance. Some high quality skins are slightly transparent over the whole body, allowing the appearance sliders to slightly adjust skin tone. But the best-looking skins tend to be almost completely opaque, so the appearance sliders for skin color and lip color and makeup options have no effect at all on them.

There are several feature requests that include adding more layers to the avatar, so in addition to a great skin one could add makeup, or body tattoos, or other features that don't use a clothing layer. The Lindens have acknowledged these requests but have not acted on them.
