Do you have Chip's templates? (o.o) http://goodies.onrez.com/shop/chipmidnight/

Regardless of what software you use... Make sure the texture overlaps on each seam by a little bit according to these templates. That way there's no split or gap as you have already observed. Anything that does go beyond the seam will not get baked inworld anyway, so it's best to just let things fill in. A little GIMP work goes a long way. (^_^)y

Wouldn't the seams for pants and underwear be on the sides? Maybe it's some kind of transparency issue.

The texture is applied from two different portions of the image to make the front and back. So there are seams on the outer and inner leg. And, yeah, it really is a transparency issue. (^_^)y

ah u misunderstand. i was trying to be nice. the side seams r not the problem. sl paints the texture into the butt crack therefore giving a wedgie look and its not pretty. any ideas?

AH! As in, the pants are too tight! Well, you can adjust a slider setting for how 'loose' the pands are, but it generally will still cling pretty close to the buns. Same goes for shirts on females. They conform to the body like a wet t-shirt unless you adjust the "looseness" setting in the clothing appearance sliders.

Unfortunately, wit either of these situations, going for a "relaxed" or even "baggy" look doesn't work very well. It tends to create distortions, and generally doesn't look right.

Most clothes in SL look like body paint, and we just shrug and accept it.

Unfortunate but true. :( This was at the heart of the bikini bottom question I posed -- and you answered for me -- last week in this forum. Until I tried making bikinis myself, I couldn't understand why almost all women's underwear in SL is a VERY uncomfortable-looking thong style. Thongs turn out to be the only viable option. If you try to make more modest underwear, you end up with some really ugly things happening down there. :o

My only advice for that is to actually wear the templates. Look at the distortion lines that happen and take them into consideration when creating your clothing layer textures. (^_^)y

I think it has to do with curve of where the clothing item is on the butt.
I have made things the line didn't show up I have no clue how I did it but usually my issue with underwear is the crotch is hanging down the thighs in ways I hadn't intended it.
The rest I have no clue what there talking about and I don't think there is a way to make baggy underwear.
Just experiment try using texture only in uv sider and different things maybe something will click in.
It maybe shadow thing or who knows.
I got no clue what you're talking about av painter crack....except the type that rip off peoples work and I don't know what you're talking about and even if I did I wouldn't say or use it.
