I've been trying to create a decent sequin texture on clothing for awhile now. Photosourcing doesn't work very well cause i can't get the luster that sequins have that way...and i've tried doing it myself...but it just never looks...right. I've seen some excellent sequin clothing done in world so i know it's very possible (jonquille noir and camie cooper notably make very nice ones..and are the look i'm going for) Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

I did a search awhile back for a tutorial on how to create sequins in photoshop not sure what program you use
maybe try doing a search and see if that tutorial helps you out
(I found it was pretty good)

You could try downloading free Photoshop brushes for sequins, here: http://www.brushes.obsidiandawn.com/sets/fancy-fabrics.htmI know there is a way to make your own brushes also, but my Photoshop skills are limited. Good luck

I think that the sequins are a pattern or something of the like applied and then the designer may use an overlay layer to create the highlights and shadows that you see on the clothing. I have tried as well to create the sequined look and never was satisfied. Judging from the clothing that is out there it seems that people use noise, photo-sourcing and a sequin pattern... I think that in order to get what you want you will have to experiment. I believe that creating the sequin as a brush and or pattern and then applying the overlay layer for shading and highlights in combination with a curves adjustment layer may get what you are looking for. I am going to experiment with this just to see if I can create it.
If so I will post a tutorial on that for you.
Hope you find something - if so post a link back here cause I know I am interested!

haven't been able to find any decent tutorials..i've found one for making *individual* sequins..but what i'm struggling with is the overall look of highlights/shadows..so that didn't help me much. If i find a better route, i will be sure to post..and if anyone has been successful, please let us know your strategy!

I think it will be hard to get the lustre of sequins. After all, that is a lighting effect in the Real World, yes? Lights in SL are much more limited. Search for the discussions of doing things like patent leather, wet rubber, or gold jewelry for example. i wonder if you could make a prim that is sort of like a waffle iron shape, that is, a plane with a lot of bumps on it. Then make it a shiny and/or light object. Wear it, and sink it into your skin so that only the bumps show. The would be lots of shiny little lights. A sculpty could do this, I think. ...oh, and I am NOT the expert

Hiyas! This is a strange coincidence, I was just about to write a turtorial on sequence! I have used many different techniques to get various results. In the following image I actually came out better using a photograph of the actual sequined fabric of the product for the SL version of it. It WAS missing that sequined glow so I added some "bling" to it and a light so that it glows and stands out as sequin fabric should: http://www.never30.com/ShopNever30/GlitzSilver.jpg When I finish the tutorial, I will be glad to drop you a link best of luck! ~Maddy

Sequin Tutorial: www.suztv.com/SequinTutorial.htmlyou will need to follow the satin tutorial to understand some of the sequin tutorial - but if you hav ealready made your clothing you can turn the "base" layer image into a grayscale image and overlay over the sequin pattern - simple but confusing. Satin Tutorial: http://www.suztv.com/SatinTutorial.htmlYou can download the Photoshop pattern and brush file here: http://www.suztv.com/Sequins.html* - Photoshop CS2, I'll provide an image pack and more patterns later... http://secondwavefashion.blogspot.com/Wanna visit my store? http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plush%20Omicron/162/224/23/?title=SecondWave-Main%20Store
