I find the best way for getting fabric and other textures for sampling is a good digital camera. You can't beat the real thing :)

For full permission sculpties that you can use in making items, check SL Exchange. That's probably your best bet.

Thanks :)

So i should just take rl pics and use that? lool, oh n 1 more thing (kinda dumb) i did a google search once n grabbed a silk texture and put it onto paint shop pro photo x2, pasted as new layer over ya template, n pulled it to cover what i needed, but it looked so bad because pic of google was small, and when u expand something that is small u can guess what happens, is there a way i can sort this on psp? ty

Scarlet, I can tell you a way I do fabrics like demin. I use GIMP so the terms may be a little different but I'm pretty it will be understandable for any good imaging program.

Do the flood thing for your base color. Do the noise trick too.......maybe a couple times. However do that noise on a separate layer (I use a 100% transparent layer for all my drawing). Then there is a distortion filter in GIMP called "pinch and whirl".........find a like filter in your imaging program. Duplicate the layer that has the noise on it then using the whirle and pinch filter run a pass with it.......then duplicate that layer again. Change the amount of whirl and/or pinch and do it again. Keep duplicating and repeat until you get a random pattern of noise that you like. Then I might run the "unsharp mask" filter over a couple of those duplicated layers so that you get bright and sharpened bits of noise mixed into the overall look of your texture. The idea is to get a random but somewhat uniform look to the surface of the fabric you are making. Sometimes I will use the "clothify" filter too.......but make sure you do that on the base layer if you want to do it. It will darken the fabric somewhat....just so you know. Then just add your shadows and highlights like always. Save in your imaging software's native format (PSD for Photoshop, XCF for GIMP, and I don't know Paint Shop's extension for it's native format). Then flatten or merge your texture. Size to your needs and save at 24 bit.

It works for me.........hope it's something of a help for you.

any of the distortion filters will work.........I use the whirl and pinch because I got used to it. You could use the bend filter. Bump mapping is not good for GIMP....it also makes an impression on the layer below the layer you are bump mapping (but I think that's just a GIMP issue so it may not be a bad choice for PSP). You could also flip your layers to get a random/uniform look too......flip virtically and horizontally.....maybe rotate too. Mixing up the spots of noise is the goal.......without overpowering the base texture.

Play around with it..........something will work, I'm sure. :)

on PSP you choose a midrange denim color, then add noise

then go to effects, artistic, halftone

using a darker blue for face and white for background

on halftone I choose 'line' size 2, and adjust the angles all to 45%

this gives me an awesome denim fabric, well I like it anyway :)

oh and I'm doing this on a 1024 x 1024 image, if you are using 512 x 512 you might want to adjust your line size, I always draw on 1024 x 1024 and then resize it before uploading

edit: also, I use adjust hue and saturation to tweak the jeans color too, you can get a nice faded jeans look that way

By the way, I used the gimp jeans tutorial somewhere in this forum, and kind of searched around till I found the corresponding tools in psp
