A good water texture

Hi!

I'm looking for a good water texture, but outside of SL so that I can edit it.

What I'd ideally like is a water animation as seen in many games, what I want to do is use this for the water in an area, but also combine it with another texture to make a 'shimmer' effect on the pool walls and maybe ceiling as well.

Is there a good source for free water textures, or a tutorial for making your own?

Thanks!

There are many, pick your favorite: http://www.google.com/search?q=photoshop+water+textures

Once you have a couple of textures in hand, you might probaly like to know that the most convincing in SL consist of two or more layered on top of each other moving in different directions with the upper ones being partially transparent. See also llSetTextureAnim

If you look in your inventory under the 'Library' section theres a couple water textures already there. Not the best admittedly, but they are free lol.

I will drop you a selection. The best effect you get with water is to use 2 or 3 prims stacked on top of each other each with the texure moving in a different direction. Make the bottom prim transparent to around 13, the middle or top set tranparent to 28 (or a third prim make trasparent to 36). Experiment with different textures combinations until you find one that blows your skirt up :D

I'm less sure about creating a reflection on walls and ceilings but you might try the technique that Bedazzle created:

I have a lot of water features at the SL Botanical Gardens (Federal) using different effects.

Using Shiny Objects won't get you the reflections you want, as far as I can tell. Shiny Objects don't seem to work that way. (What I'd suggest doing is making or finding an image of the reflections themselves, adding transparency with an alpha channel, and then putting it on flat prims. Put these prims over your walls and ceiling. Having the textures rotate might work, but you'd probably be better animating them in a outside program, due to the way water reflections move. I think there are scripts for both the animation and the rotation in Robin Wood's texture tutorial.)
