I'm sorry - kept meaning to post this and I just haven't had time. I found a kick-ass tutorial for Photoshop for making hair and thought I'd share. The first great tutorial is the method I use for drawing hair textures, the second looks like it would have promise (for straight hair only) if you could make the motion blur only blur to a certain point so you could make an alpha channel. Still, it was quick, easy & cheap so I'm adding it.

And no, I haven't bothered to make a wig in SL yet because there are so many talented people already making hair. But I can't wait to see what cool styles might be inspired by these tutorials!!!

There are a bunch of good hair tutorials at 3DTotal.com. Unfortunately I can't give you a direct link because of their site, but go to 3DTotal, click Tutorials on the Free Stuff menu, and then select the Digital Painting section. Lots of cool stuff there. There's a Photoshop tutorial section too.
