I use Paint Shop Pro for my clothing but I do the alpha in Adobe. Just a matter of preference really - Adobe does the alphas much faster and easier but everything else in Adobe is harder for me to get used to so I just always stuck with Paint Shop. And Paint Shop will do alphas as well, it's just a little more work. (There's a sticky in this thread with instructions for doing alpha's in a lot of the top graphics programs, PSP included...)

I have used Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop that comes with it to create all kinds of animated textures, even sculptie textures.. I have never used PhotoShop ok...
hears the cries of "yes and it shows!" but in my opinion.. PSP is a very capable program. Its learning curve is a little steep and twisting, but it does have great help support with the program, simply by clicking the help buttons found everywhere where one is using it.PSP can deal directly with TGA files, and the Mask/ Alpha abilities are very very good. Animation Shop has some very well thought out features, whoever created it, knew what they were doing, it has , in my opinion, excellent Effects, and will load AVI`s and all kinds of Video as well, which means one can create some very special SL animations. PSP also has some very well thought out Effects, The two parts, Animation Shop, and Paint Shop Pro integrate perfectly. I create animated textures using PSP, and ive used it to create clothing. i share this addy, just so you can see what is possible with PSP.. and i am no expert, you will see faults, no one is perfect. Trueblood 54,80,23 or search All, using Incony, my name. Every animation at my home in Trueblood that you see was created using PSP, Animation Shop and MS Paint, often from a blank starting point... ie nothing at all, to 80 frame anims. You can create clothing with PSP, and use it in Avpainter..etc.. I am sure someone who specialises in clothing and has used PSP at length will tell you more..i would say i am glad that i have PSP, its not second rate at all. |

I've been doing all my graphics in PSP 7, AS 3 and PSP 8 ever since they came out.
I prefer PSP 7's UI over PSP 8's, but when I want to use *any* PS plugins, I use PSP 8 'cause it supports 'em. Imho, there's very little that PS can do that PSP can't do. It's a little extra work but a lot less $$$ and a smaller learning curve. _____________________

Now that is the largest piece of carp I have ever heard. PSP 10 and 11 beat the pants of Gimp. PSP can use 90% of PS plug ins. You can edit your alpha channels. (some people don't know this) And it is backed by Corel, where as Gimp was created by a group of students for free. Look I know some people like free and all, but honestly it is an inferior product. It has a crappy GUI that had to a plug in created to look more PS like. _____________________

I would listen to Thunderclap on this one.
If you can spend the $100 on psp by all means get it or use it if you have it. It is far more superior than GIMP is and not that hard to learn. There are tons of tutorials out there for every level. I use psp9 and that was a breeze to learn, I even tried GIMP but the interface and instructions are not as easy to understand IMO. |

Don't forget you can download a free trial.
I've been making clothes for a SL eternity (8 months ) using PSP 8. A used copy set me back $30, and a copy of "PSP8 for Dummies" another $20. My clunky laptop couldn't run PSP11, but 8 seems to be powerful enough for all the basics.I'm finally getting a decent computer this week, so I'm going to take the plunge and take a Photoshop class. But I was not about to spend that sort of money a few months back until I knew I was totally, utterly and completely addicted to content creation ![]() |

For four years now I have used PSP 7. I have 8 as well as 10, but I keep going back to 7. Everytime I hear of a technique PS can do, I find out a way to do it in PSP. Plus its resource lite on newer systems so you can keep it running.

There was a time when I would have agreed with you, Nefertiti, but that time is long past. If you examine posts of mine on this subject from 3 or 4 years ago, you'll see that my usual response back then was "I don't know why anyone would want to spend money on the third best option [meaning PSP] when the second best option [GIMP] is free." Nowadays, I never say that anymore. Over the last few years each new version of PSP has added tremendous improvements, both to functionality and to overall power, while during the same time frame, GIMP has evolved very little. As I often say in these discussions, I must applaud GIMP for delivering so much power for free, but it's not the be-all-end-all divine gift to graphics that open source fanboys tend to make it out to be. It's been riddled with problems since its inception. Its interface is abysmal, its non-standard work flow logic can be very confusing, and its documentation is practically non-existent. I've been hoping for years that that would change, but I think it's safe to conclude by now that it's not gonna happen. For a low cost solution, PSP is definitely the way to go. (And coming from a Photoshop fanatic like me, I think that says a lot.) _____________________
