I suppose that to add these in a fashion that will present itself (In the most realistic, 3D manner.) to an imported creation, features such as lace trimmings, or, fringe, or, chains and the like, must be added as prim features AFTER the import of the base design?

I hope someone can enlighten me in this regard. Everything I attempt to add as part of the TGA file, prior to importing, just looks SOOO 2D and loses something without the 3D realism look. Seeing links pasted to the surface of the clothing and avi simply can't be the answer!

How are designers adding hanging chain and fringe to a texture object like clothing, in such a manner that it will hold the position relative to the rest of the item? Take for instance a case of fringe on a coat sleeve, maybe?

Thanks for any help you might provide!

Cheers

Chains and such like a chain belt or a chain over the shoulder yes use prims.

There was something I was working on a hat like a sombrero you know with pompoms around the outer fringe. For this I used a seamless strip of pompoms on a single transparent cicular prim it worked well and because it was a shape i could make "flexi" i made it so they moved a bit when you moved.

spikes on gloves etc that kind of stuff its just prims you put on a base that you burry in the hand so only the spikes show through the glove

same with things that might stick out of the shoulders.

Fringe on a coat sleeve? I've seen coats that have the fringe just drawn in with some shadows added to give it some depth. I've also seen fringes made as Wilhelm describes by using a single prim that has a fringe texture applied to it and attaching this prim to the avatar's arm. It's so hard to describe this in words... I'd suggest taking a look in-world at similar products or maybe in slexchange.
