Hello all,
I haven't posted in while been experimenting a bit but run into something I don't know how to do.
I am still stumped on transparents even with the guide.
Layers always seem to cover up next layer.
I am using Adobe.
Anyway I thought I share also what I have been doing.
I am trying to make this transluent very shimmer pearl white texture with slight rainbow tone.
Issue I am stumble upon is I don't know how to get layers show through other layers or control how much is seen.
I am working on textures for object design I hand drew.
Also I notice sometimes pearl shows up very grey and other times just right but not sure why but I still can't figure out how to get slight rainbow hue to show up in the texture.

I save item as 24mb tga but when I upload SL server keeps telling me I haven't.
Does anyone know why?
Wonders off fingers crossed that someone will see this thread.
I didn't want to start a new thread.
Thanks in advance if someone actually does answer.

Thanks for answering.

FD~

What you need to do is make it a 32-bit texture, and fill the alpha channel with gray. In the alpha channel, white makes the texture opaque, black makes the texture transparent. Gray will leave the texture translucent. I've done a few things this way, and I've had good results filling the alpha channel with the 30% Gray standard color swatch in Photoshop.

Just a note- The so-called alpha bug will mess with you on this....the video card will keep switching which 32-bit texture is rendered in front in SL as the camera moves.

And as I keep thinking about it- Try loading it both as a 32-bit texture with a gray fill in the alpha channel, and as a 24-bit texture which will be completely opaque. Make your 'inner' surface textured with the 24-bit texture, then lift a parallel surface just slightly outward. Apply the 32-bit texture to the outer prim, and maybe rotate the texture 45° or 90°.

And still more- Don't use a solid gray in the alpha layer. Use your image in the RGB layers to set varying levels of opacity, i.e., varying shades of gray in the alpha channel. The highlighted white areas of your opal texture you would want to be more opaque (closer to white in the alpha channel) and the darker areas you would want more translucent (darker in the alpha channel).

In your layers palette there's an opacity slider that you can use to make lower layers show through.
