I have made a few clothing items in SL but, I'm just beginning to undertsand Prim Skirts. I have made a few Prim Skirts but I have some questions:
1. How do you get the skirt to attach to the right body part? For example: I have attached my skirt to my body but it's not going around my waist.. It's like it's attached to me and sticking out.
2. How do you get that Prim Skirt to always attach the same way on ever person? For example: When I buy a clothing item that has a Prim Skirt when I attach it it automatically goes into the right place.
If anyone knows of any good Prim Skirt tuorials I would greatly appreciate it.

Okay, I understand that but I can't get the skirt to attach to my body in the correct position. It attaches to my waist as an object sticking out.. It's not going around body in the correct position. How do I get it to do that?

Forgive me if this is not correct - but could it be as simple as having to rotate the skirt?
You can edit objects (to some degree) while they are attached to you. So hit edit and rotate the skirt until it is at the right angel.
Just remember that the root prim holds the rotation infomation - so if you add a prim and change the root prim to that prim, your rotations will be messed up again.

Hi Launlori, here is what I do when making a prim skirt....after selecting wear i choose attach to (usually pelvis) for a skirt so it moves nice with the avatar. Then after that you can jump on a pose stand and edit it to position. Good luck!

From: Launlori Sterling Okay, I understand that but I can't get the skirt to attach to my body in the correct position. It attaches to my waist as an object sticking out.. It's not going around body in the correct position. How do I get it to do that? Never, I repeat never, build a prim skirt without using a pose stand There are free ones available, and I think Nevermore gives some no-trans copies away with some of their clothes (as do other shops). I use the pose stand while I'm building the skirt, then again when I attach it to my avie. It'll save your sanity.

Furry Avatar + Prim Skirt usually = no tail. I have one furry avatar that can use prim skirts that attach to the pelvis, because that avvie attaches the tail to the stomach, by default, leaving the pelvis attachment point free. In general, since I am usually in fur, and since I wear a wide range of furry avvies, I avoid prim skirts. That said, ANY prim attachment should be adjusted while on a pose stand. When you attach it the first time, use the 'attach to...' choice and not just 'wear', so you can select the attachment point to use. Hop on oyur pose stand, select the skirt to edit it, and rotate and re-position it as needed. Once you detach it, taking it back into inventory, the next time you can just select 'wear', and it will go where you got it from. You may find it useful to make a library of different body shapes, and test your prim stuff on them. At least try it on the basic female shapes from the Linden Library, since a lot of new folks don't change the sliders much from one of those. Remember, unlike regular SL clothes, a prim item can't adjust on its own for the avvie being fat or thin, having big hips, etc... So a prim skirt may fit a generic "Ruth" just fine, but not 5'1", big-hipped "Bambi Brighteyes". (A fictional example - no such person exists).

Where furry avatars allow editing, I sometimes find it helpful to create copies of tails and other attachments, and attach them copies to alternate points, so I can still use prim clothing.
The steps:
- Make a copy of your tail (or whatever) - rename it to "tail (new point)" - Sit on a pose stand, wearing your normal tail (or whatever) - attach your spare tail to the new point - rotate/shift the tail so it overlaps your old tail - detach your old tail
You now have two tails on different attachment points, but otherwise identical. Obviously, the two points chosen must be ones that never (or hardly) move relative to each other.

Yeah, I've done that. Moved a tail to be attached to 'spine' or 'stomach' instead of 'pelvis'. How well it works depends a lot on the design of the tail itself, and how you move. And of course, using a pose stand for that is almost mandatory! Also depends on what other prims the furry avvie is using attachment points for. I have a chibi-fox vixen, and also three quad avatars, that each use nearly all the common attachment points. Sometimes, if you want a particular outfit to work, it's worth the effort. In which case I would save an Outfit that was the altered full avatar, already dressed in that set of clothing. Otherwise, it gets too confusung. I can't even tell you how many different avatars I have. I primarily wear the Jakkal's Werehouse red fox vixen, or the Lost Creatures red fox vixen. But I also have various other anthro foxes, wolves, and canines, as well as quad wolf, collie and red fox forms. I have some forms with wings, and some that are males... Oh, and even a few Human female forms! Each presents its own challenges when adding things that require attachment points.
