There doesn't seem to be a forum to put this question in - this seemed the closest, since it deals alot with clothing design.
I don't make clothes. I am trying to alter a piece of clothing, and I think it is just a basic few tips I need to fix my problem with the fit of a flexiprim skirt.
Here's the deal: I have a dress on my body, modifiable by the Linden tools. It comes with a flexiprim skirt object, that I wear over the lower part of the body.
The problem is that the flexiprim skirt narrows too much as it approaches the top waistband. This causes parts of the prims to disappear behind the basic dress I am wearing underneath it, so that the underdress shows instead of the prim skirt showing, as the skirt nears my waist.
The flexiprim skirt is 23 linked pieces. It appears to have as its primary prim a small cylinder in the center of the skirt, that is probably what is used to place it on the center of my torso.
Is there any easy way to make the skirt narrow LESS as it approaches the waistband? It has mod privileges, so I'm hoping there is something I can tweak to change the amount that the skirt narrows.
And yes, I could try tracking down the designer, etc., but I would really like to learn how to fix something like this myself, because I have a few other skirts that could benefit from the same kind of tweaking.
I'd appreciate any advice those of you that make flexiprim skirts can offer. Thanks, Princess Ivory

Let me see if I can remember because I am not in. Don't know if you have already tried this or not. You need to stretch textures. There are three boxes you need to check at the top of the edit screen.. Stretch, stretch both sides, stretch textures.. You should see some little white boxes, move those. Hopefully this will help you. If this does not work the only other thing is to change your body shape. or simply return the item.

Hi Princess Ivory!
My first suggestion is to make a copy of the skirt if it is copiable so you have the original if you don't like the way it looks after you've edited it.
Then you can simply stand on a posing stand and adjust the prims individually by choosing "Edit Linked Parts" in the edit menu.
If you choose to stretch it using the white boxes with the "Edit Linked Parts" not checked, you may ruin the integrity of the over all design since this will also lengthen the panels as well as make them wider and thicker.
Gently move each panel of the skirt out to where if fits best on your particular shape.
Personally I move one panel (say the one on the left hip area) out, then move the corresponding panel on the other hip the same distance/direction so that I can keep the skirt even while working on it.
If you still need assistance, IM me in-world and I will be happy to walk you through it.
Best, ~Ari

I have made a few prim skirts and they are tricky to fit. If it is copyable, do make a copy. Before you edit linked parts, try resizing the whole skirt a bit and adjusting the position up or down your hips.
After I made a few skirts, I observed skirt that gals were wearing around in SL and with almost every prim skirt some of the underskirt shows above the prim skirt up to the waist, so that in itself is not an indication that the skirt is not fitting you. It comes down to what adjustments you can do to please your eye.

Another approach is to make the AVI's butt smaller to make the skirt fit better.
Then save the whole thing with the "make outfit" button and select the changes to the shape as well as clothing to save.
